A Pan-Africanist. I'm committed to building lasting solutions to enable Africa reach its greatest potential.

Excited to be joining my friends Segun Adeyemi and Mark Straub to talk scaling! It's what all Startups aspire to whatever measure that's put on it. There's the old, long, tedious ways while there's the new, quick and smart way to scale. And yes, we'll also be discussing "How NOT to scale a startup" which is something that doesn't get talked about enough and I'm sure we'll have many hard learned lessons to share. Register at the link below to join us!

Embedded finance is the integration of financial services into non-financial platforms, allowing consumers to access financial products without leaving the platform. For example, on a site like Amazon, a consumer can finance a purchase directly during checkout through an instalment plan or loan. This seamless process enables non-financial entities (NFEs) to handle transactions from start to finish within their platform, offering convenience and improving the customer experience. In the past, incorporating embedded finance into platforms demanded significant resources and technological effort. However, this has evolved, thanks to the emergence of fintechs and the widespread use of APIs, allowing NFEs to connect their platform with the financial products offered by financial intermediaries. The embedded finance market is projected to reach just under $230bn by 2025, and the estimated market value for embedded finance is expected to surpass $400bn by 2026. Globally, the sector is projected to reach a value of $7,2trn by 2030. This estimate positions the sector to be twice the combined value of the world's top 30 banks. Within the next decade, the retail sector will dominate the embedded finance market, contributing 49% of its value, with a projected global worth of $3.5trn. In the Nigerian context, embedded finance is on a growth trajectory, with a forecast annual growth rate of 54.5%, and is expected to rise beyond $8bn in value by the year 2029. These projections underscore the significant potential of embedded finance in both global and regional financial landscapes. Consequently, in recent years, there has been an influx of venture capital investment into the realm of embedded finance. Notably, in September 2023, Anchor, a Nigerian embedded finance company, secured substantial funding earmarked for expanding its range of product offerings. On a global scale, the venture capital landscape has also witnessed growth in funding targeted at embedded finance ventures. As of September 2021, the cumulative value of VC investments in the embedded finance sector surpassed $4bn with projections indicating that this trend is poised to continue. This influx of capital reflects the recognition of embedded finance as a key player in shaping the future of financial services. Recognising the disruptive potential of embedded finance, traditional financial services are also evolving. Financial institutions are embracing it to reach new customer segments and expand their market share. Embedded finance is catalysing a fundamental transformation in how financial services are accessed, creating a win-win scenario for non-financial businesses and traditional financial institutions. I explore this, and more, in Chapter 14 of the book, 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚. Stay tuned for more updates and details on where to purchase the book over the next few days! 🙌 #Fintech #Law #Regulation #Innovation

CEO at Anchor (YC S22) - Embedded Finance | FinTech | Payments | Banking

I'm excited to speak at this year’s UC Berkeley Haas Africa Business Club —a gathering of professionals, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and educators deeply invested in Africa's future. This year's theme, "Africa 360: A Perspective on Africa's Future," couldn’t be more timely. I will share my thoughts on some of the most pressing issues and exciting opportunities shaping Africa’s growth. Together with other industry experts, we'll explore what lies ahead and how to unlock the continent’s potential. For me, it is not just about talks — but sparking meaningful conversations, networking with brilliant minds, and finding ways to move the needle forward. If you care about where Africa is heading and happen to be in the Bay Area (or anywhere in the US), this is the place to be. I’d love to see you there and connect in person. You can register via this link. https://bit.ly/3TkMQ2g Let’s keep pushing Africa’s story forward.
