🌍 Hello LinkedIn Fam! Have you thought of how Greenhouse Gases Interact  with Our Planet 🌍 So here’s the drill and please stay with me…… Greenhouse gases are like Earth’s cozy blanket, keeping our planet warm by trapping the sun’s heat in the atmosphere. But when human activities pile on extra layers, things start to heat up too much, leading to global warming and climate change. Here’s how each GHG covered by the Kyoto Protocol interacts with our atmosphere: Carbon dioxide (CO2): The star performer, released mainly through burning fossil fuels and cutting down forests. CO2 sticks around for a long time and takes the lead in global warming, responsible for about 76% of the impact. Methane (CH4): This gas is a powerhouse, coming from natural gas production, livestock, and agricultural and food waste. It’s over 25 times more effective than CO2 at heating things up, though it doesn’t stay in the atmosphere as long. Nitrous oxide (N2O): Known as the “laughing gas” (but no joke here!), N2O is released from agriculture, industry, and burning fossil fuels. It’s 298 times more potent than CO2 and lingers on our precious earth for about 114 years. Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs): These synthetic gases are used in our  fridges, air conditioners, and aerosols. They are used as refrigerants in fridges and air conditioners. They help absorb and release heat, which is crucial for the cooling process. It might not be as commonly known, but their global warming potential is thousands of times higher than CO2. Perfluorocarbons (PFCs): itis a byproduct from industrial activities like aluminum production, and the likes, see this PFCs- is  a quite strong GHGs with super long lifespans, making them major players in long-term warming. Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6): this guy is the heavyweight champion of GHGs, used in the electrical industry. SF6 has a global warming potential 23,500 times greater than CO2, making it the most potent GHG known! Nitrogen trifluoride (NF3): This gas is a key player in electronics manufacturing, with a warming potential 17,200 times greater than CO2. Talk about powerful! Now, let’s zoom in on the E-sector and its entire value chain. I would like you to imagine the number of electronics, gadgets and appliances produced across the globe, compare that volume of production to our  GHG reduction or offsets efforts…………. 🌱 GHG Accounting is fundamental for organizations to spot environmental risks and discover ways to cut down on it emissions. Reach out to me to run the numbers and carry out a comprehensive GHG inventory for your organization! 🌍✨ #GHGInventory #Carbonaccounting #extendedproducerresponsibility #Sustainability #ClimateChange #GHG #GreenhouseGases #EnvironmentalRisk #GHGAccounting #SustainableDevelopment

GMD/CEO @ Global Property |Smart & Sustainable Cities Development Expert

My presentation at the 2nd day of the IFMA Global Africa conference in Accra highlighted the crucial role of Facilities Managers in enhancing the sustainability of Africa's cities. With Africa projected to be the most urbanized continent by 2050, it is imperative for us, as facilities managers, to shift our focus towards urban sustainable facilities management. Buildings are significant consumers of resources and contributors to waste generation, with 100 billion tons of raw materials used in construction globally and one-third of the world's waste coming from buildings. Moreover, 39% of global carbon emissions are related to energy consumption in buildings. To drive sustainable change, Facilities Managers should prioritize the following actions: 1. Reduce consumption in all forms 2. Embrace a zero-waste approach 3. Implement Urban Sustainable FM practices 4. Establish economic models that positively impact urban cities 5. Extend building services to benefit host cities 6. Engage with local communities and authorities 7. Support FM education at the local level 8. Adopt building solutions that benefit host communities 9. Supporting the adoption of responsible consumption and responsible waste generation By embracing these strategies, Facilities Managers can play a pivotal role in fostering sustainability, reducing environmental impact, and creating positive economic and social outcomes for the communities they serve. #FacilitiesManagement #Sustainability #Urbanization #IFMAConference #AfricaCities #BuildingSolutions
