Cholera is a bacterial disease that spreads through contaminated water. It happens when water is contaminated with faeces containing cholera bacteria and such water is consumed directly, used to prepare food and drinks, and to wash fruits and vegetables sold in the market. It presents with symptoms such as; 👉 Frequent and pale diarrhoea—sometimes described as rice water stool. It is the most common and constant symptom. 👉Vomiting 👉Fever 👉Dehydration Here are some ways you can protect yourself. Avoid street foods and drinks in the meantime, from local beverages like Kunu to canteen-sold food of any kind. Ensure your drinking and cooking water comes from trusted sanitary sources during this period. The municipal water supplied by the government is usually safe, but if you can afford to, buy packaged water to reduce risks. Cook your meals well and preserve them properly. Wash your hand with soap and water regularly, after using the toilet and before handling food.
