About us

The Mechanical Engineering programme is designed to equip graduate with enough basic engineering principles so that they can stand out and cope with challenges of a developng country like ours. The philosophy of the departmental programme is to expose students to the science and technology of materials giving the students a sound theoretical background of the fundamentals and showing them the link between theory and practice by way of laboratory, practical, work-visits and industrial attachments. The first three years are devoted to basic sciences and fundamental principles of engineering sciences. The last two years deal with the more specialized branches of mechanical engineering such as machine design, production engineering, refrigeration and air-conditioning and mechanical repair and maintenance.

Technical Manager - Project and Operations | Author - Funded Graduate Admission | Industry 4.0 | I help professionals secure fully funded graduate admission

I am honored to have been invited by the OAU Department of Mechanical Engineering to speak to the graduating final year students today during their engineering for future career seminar. My session commenced at 5AM CST. I had to wake up at around 4AM because I am 6 hours behind the time in Nigeria. It is not common to be invited by one's alma mater. So when I got the invitation from the head of department Prof Surajudeen Obayopo requesting that I speak to the students, it was an easy decision. It means I am doing something that the department thought the graduating class can learn from. I spoke on the topic 'LEVERAGING GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR GLOBAL IMPACT'. During the discussion, I shared simple steps to secure fully funded graduate admissions. I equally encouraged them to have a global mindset. This will help them in knowing how to present what they have in a way that will be acceptable to the graduate schools. The truth is there are numerous scholarships and funding across the world, but particularly in North America. Positioning your applications to be competitive enough is beyond having good grades. It requires deploying proven steps that guarantee results. These and many more were areas I touched on during my presentation. I shared my experience as an undergraduate student and how education has helped me live a decent live. So, I emphatically told them that education is not a scam. It was equally very humbling for me to see Prof Gbadebo Moses Owolabi make a few remarks and share his thoughts after my presentation. Prof Owolabi was instrumental to my admission into Howard University. Seeing (though virtually) some of the professors and teachers (Saheed ADIO, PhD, MNSE, R.Eng (COREN), Muritala Adam, Mrs Kukoyi, etc.) that provided the foundation that has helped us to shine on global stages was another high point of the session. I think the department is doing a great job in exposing the graduating class to realities of opportunities they can latch on as they complete their undergraduate program. The whole program package that also involved showcasing the students final year projects is very commendable. So, to the organizers and the department of mechanical engineering Obafemi Awolowo University, thank you for having me. I wish the 2024 graduating class of Mechanical Engineering Department OAU success in whatever they decide to pursue. Great Ife! To Your Greatness, Johnson Aina, P.Eng., PMP®

  • Last week, students from the Department, embarked on an insightful field trip to Abuja, the nation’s capital. This educational visit provided valuable exposure to various organizations and industries, including Innov8 Hub, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), and Autogas Nigeria, a CNG conversion center and workshop. The students also participated in a significant program organized by National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, which was on Harnessing Youth Potentials and Career Prospects within the Nigerian Automotive Sector. Key areas discussed included youth skills development, CNG conversion, and the safety and benefits of using CNG in the automotive industry. Accompanied by Dr. B. O. Malomo and Dr. H. A. Owolabi, both lecturers in the department, the students gained deeper insights into relevant policies, cutting-edge equipment, and the growing prospects in Nigeria’s automotive, energy and technology sectors.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the NiMechE UI conference, an event that truly lived up to its theme: "Beyond the Blueprint." It was an enlightening experience that showcased how engineering and innovation can converge to create sustainable solutions for our future. One key takeaway was the idea that to monetize a problem, we must first highlight it. This approach not only brings awareness but also opens the door for innovative solutions and investment opportunities. The conference illustrated how "jugaad" meets design thinking. It's where improvisation isn't just making do; it's a form of innovation. This intersection is where we find the most creative and practical solutions to complex problems. The discussions on circularity emphasized the importance of the three R's: reuse, recycle, and repurpose. Lastly, the spotlight on CNG innovations highlighted the strides we're making in clean energy. It's inspiring to see such progress in developing technologies that could lead to a greener, more sustainable world. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the organizers, speakers, the president of NiMechE OAU Ademiluyi Desire and fellow attendees who made this conference not only possible but also a memorable and impactful event. The University of Ibadan provided a refreshing environment that was conducive to learning and collaboration. Its serene and beautiful campus was the perfect backdrop for an event focused on innovation and sustainability. #NiMechEUI #EngineeringInnovation #SustainableSolutions #CircularEconomy #CNG
