Earlier today, IjebuMarket signed a farming and aggregation contract with a manufacturing company in Lagos. For the manufacturer, it will provide them guaranteed agricultural inputs at affordable/guaranteed offtake price (so consumers in the Nigerian economy can have access to affordable food). Secondly, it will provide jobs/earning opportunities & world-class support to farmers (over 100 women & youths who reside in rural areas) to cultivate in Ogun state and Oyo state within proximity to the manufacturer's processing plant. #IjebuMarket #Food #AgriculturalCommodities #SupplyChain #Technology #Farming #Cultivation #Nigeria #Africa

While doing our field team at IjebuMarket worked on this Paddy Rice order, there were places where a heavy truck would sink into the ground gradually if the truck dares venture in. So in this particular case, we simply involved smaller vans. Then in many places too, Vans too will sink so motorcycles are use to move the bags to a collection point. At this point in the season, it takes more effort to get food & agricultural commodities from these farmers/owners but we also know many are also selling to buy inputs like fertilizer & others. Some of the things we have mastered at scale at IjebuMarket. Every state, community, etc with its own modus operandi #IjebuMarket #Food #AgriculturalCommodities
A Supplier recently reached out to us at IjebuMarket to help their company with sourcing/aggregation of Paddy Rice to supply a major Rice Mill in Kano. As it's our normal process, we usually help with pre-trade, in-trade and post-trade support so that our customers (suppliers, manufacturers, exporters, etc) always have things easy with their orders. Within some kilometers radius around the IjebuMarket collection-point in a remote village in Plateau state, IjebuMarket agents were able to identify, analyse and confirm certain bags of Paddy Rice at different places (including the stores in the homes of some farmers) as fit for purchase based on the readings from the instrumentation on ground. We successfully aggregated and had the bags loaded on the truck to meet the target 40 Metric tons (i.e. 40,000KG). The truck successfully arrived at the premises of the Rice Mill in Kano, passed the customer's quality control and has successfully been offloaded. #IjebuMarket #Food #AgriculturalCommodities #Nigeria #Africa #SupplyChain #Sourcing #Aggregation #Trucking #Logistics #PaddyRice #Rice #RiceMill

Sometime in March 2024, we had an online meeting with a senior member of a Chamber of commerce in Tokyo, Japan that needed Sesame seeds and a partner of theirs in Nigeria who contacted IjebuMarket for the sourcing/aggregations. It was in that meeting that i got to know that Japan is the second largest buyer of Sesame seeds in Nigeria after China. I won't go into detail on how the operations of these international buyers work in this post. Anyways, the quality attributes that the Sesame seeds must meet for the Japanese is very high. They prefer Sesame seeds from all producing states in Nigeria except for two states (especially from year 2020). Another major concern that has made them to start reducing their purchase of these Sesame seeds is the presence of traces of fertilizer & other chemicals. This they believe is because the small-holder farmers who cultivate them are not applying fertilizer properly. Since many local small-holder farmers are not so literate and can't read the brochures of their fertilizer adequately, they end up creating some problems like applying excess which in turn create problematic food that affects the health of many people, even on record that some sheep and goats who drank run-off rain water from fields that fertilizer was just applied on died. So a lot of support beyond just giving farmers the needed input is required. Even a farmer sometime ago in the north-east died from excessive spraying of pesticides on the farm. Its the same as our medication, there is always a dosage but its very dangerous in the hands of someone without guidance on how to use it. Many times, its actually markets & market access that determines the value of certain things. This asides from feeding the world is also one of the reasons why we do IjebuMarket. It's to give millions of people the soft-infrastructure to purpose, self-actualisation and general prosperity. In the international market in the last 30 days, Coffee Price = $4.17 USD per KG (while not specifying, Robusta or Arabica) Cocoa Price = $3.50 USD per KG While engaging an IjebuMarket agent in a part of Taraba state in Nigeria, and discussing the request from a customer who needs coffee beans, her response was that, "We will need to aggregate coffee in bits over here as most people don't really get value for it or see even see it as valuable but they really value cocoa beans. Once a customer is ready, let us process cocoa beans for them." Anyways, since the customer who made the request is only interested in coffee for now, we will do the needful for them in getting them the coffee. #IjebuMarket #Food #AgriculturalCommodities #Nigeria #Africa #Technology #SupplyChain

As we make effort in ensuring we build supply chain efficiency for food & agricultural commodities to move from farmers/growers to manufacturers & processors locally/internationally, we keep accessing the most remote & hard-to-reach locations in Nigeria to ensure that manufacturers, processors & their suppliers have access to needed high quality harvests from farmers. This also ensures that farmers earn for their labour to take care of their families and minimize post harvest losses due to poor storage infrastructure. #IjebuMarket #Food #AgriculturalCommodities #Agriculture #Nigeria #Africa #SupplyChain

REASON FOR PAUSE IN WEEKLY PRICELIST UPDATES In the last few weeks of April, the prices of several food & agricultural commodities have been quite unstable which has made it difficult for us to settle on which price to work with and share. Even villages and towns that are simply 1 - 3 hours from one another do have different prices and we just thought to wait a bit. We plan to resume our weekly pricelist this week which coincides with the beginning of the Month of May. We appreciate the patience. The IjebuMarket Team.
