Commemorating the International Day for Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief Today, we pause to honour and remember the countless victims who have suffered acts of violence simply because of their religion or beliefs. At IDFP, we understand the critical role that faith leaders and communities can play in transforming conflict and building peace. Through our Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) project themed "Mediation and Interreligious Dialogue for State-Level Religious Actors," we have established interreligious mediation units that empower religious leaders to become peacemakers in their communities. In a world where religion is often misused to incite violence and fear, it's vital to recognize and amplify the other side of the coin—where religion is a force for peace, reconciliation, and healing. As we remember the victims, let's commit to being voices of compassion and agents of peace. Pre-Assembly Reflections and Leadership Transitions at IDFP The Board of Trustees of the Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP) gathered for a thorough review of the organization's activities over the past year. The meeting was filled with deep deliberations and constructive suggestions to guide our path forward. We are pleased to announce the emergence of new leadership within the Board: Prof. Isa M. Maishanu as the new Chairman and Rev. Apostolic Mother Julia Akerele as the new Secretary. Their experience and commitment will be invaluable as we continue to advance our mission. During the meeting, key presentations were made by the Co-Secretary Rev. Fr. Joseph T. Nomhwange and Financial Secretary Pst. Zaccheaus Akinadewo of the Executive Council, who shared the organization’s annual narrative report and financial statement. Today, IDFP celebrated a successful 6th Annual General Assembly! Highlights included the announcement of the new Co-Chairman of the Executive Council and the new BoT Chairman and Secretary, marking an exciting new chapter for our organization. The Assembly also featured the presentation of the audited financial statement and the annual narrative report. The Constitution Review Committee updated the general assembly on the mandate given to them, reflecting our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement. Promoting Peace and Unity in Kaduna State In partnership with the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID), IDFP implemented a step-down training on early warning and early response, mediation, and interreligious dialogue for state-level religious actors in #KadunaState. We also established interreligious mediation units to further our mission of #peacebuilding. Intended Outcomes: - Religious leaders and community members now have enhanced skills to: - Promote conflict early reporting and prevention - Engage in mediation - Conduct dialogue - Improved cooperation among religious leaders and other stakeholders to undertake interreligious peace initiatives. This project is part of IDFP's overall strategy to respond to conflicts in Nigeria by leveraging the potential of religious leaders.
