Being diagnosed with Cancer is a life-altering experience for the patient and the family/caregivers. Medicaid Cancer Foundation (MCF) was conceived out of the need to create a much needed support system for patients, families and caregivers dealing with cancer.
Given the precedence at Medicaid Radio-Diagnostics where many people diagnosed with cancer are unable to raise the needed funds for treatment, and seeing the grief people dealing with cancer have to manage, founded in 2014, MCF came to provide a platform where all these can be brought together and tackled with a collective and more sustainable effort.
We work on cancer’s full continuum – from diagnosis, to the myriad questions and answers associated with treatment and care, through the journey to full survivorship, to managing the life-changing experience for the patients, families and caregivers.
To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the annual Walk Away Cancer event, the MEDICAID CANCER FOUNDATION, in partnership with Guards Polo Club Abuja, proudly presents the Maiden Polo Against Cancer Charity Match.

This year marks 10 years of the WalkAway Cancer campaign by MEDICAID CANCER FOUNDATION. I am extremely proud and grateful for the impact.
Over the past decade, #walkawaycancer has grown into something deeply personal for many of us—a 5km journey filled with hope, love, and determination to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.
It’s more than just a walk. It’s a moment to reflect, and remember someone dear who lost, or is still battling cancer. It’s a means to raise awareness about cancer and to come together as a community. For some, it is the only exercise they do all year long. It’s also about spending time with family and friends, enjoying the energy, the food, and the entertainment, all whilst doing something that truly matters.
On a personal note, it is the weekend when there is no space to step foot in my house because all our relatives from Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Yobe, Kaduna, and Lagos hit town (Sai mun zo “walk away”). We all love it so much and I thank God for the ability to use my work to bind the family.
I am pleased that more people can see the need for awareness campaigns. Increasing awareness is the lowest-hanging fruit for us in Africa. We have to dispel the fear, stigma, and wrong health-seeking behaviors amongst our people. The lesson here is RESILIENCE. I developed the same resilience we urge cancer patients to have. If you know you have a mission, and a purpose and genuinely want to help humanity, ignore the nay-sayers and FOCUS. It will be alright.
Whether you’re walking for someone you love, or simply to support the cause, your presence on Saturday 2nd November will mean the world. Let’s walk together, raise funds, and spread the message of hope and healing.
PS
We have bags of 50kg Red Bull Rice donated by WACOT LIMITED to give away to awardees of various categories! —our GenZ walkers, aunties that walk and dance and have to take alabukun extra that day. I shall not mention any names…for now.
