These are the "invisible" needy—people who may not fit our stereotypical image of poverty, but who are nonetheless facing significant hardships. It is important for you to be aware of these individuals and to take steps to offer assistance and support. So, how can we recognize the invisible needy around us? Usually, they are not easy to identify as they may not stand out in the same way as someone who is visibly homeless or begging for money. Instead, they may be dealing with food insecurity, struggling to pay their bills, or facing mental health challenges in silence. They can easily commit suicide or suffer from high blood pressure. How to identify them: 1. Inability to afford basic needs: They can't afford their basic needs. They skip meals, and lack access to nutritious food, struggle to afford utilities, rent, and medical care. 2. Social withdrawal: they often isolate themselves because they feel ashamed or embarrassed about their situation. 3. Changes in behavior: The invisible needy among us may exhibit signs of increased stress, anxiety, or depression. They may also show signs of neglect in their personal appearance or living conditions. Here are some ways you can help: 1. Offer support: Reach out to them with empathy and understanding. Sometimes just being there to listen and offer a kind word can make a world of difference. 2. Connect them with resources: Many communities have local organizations and programs that assist with food, housing, healthcare, and other essential needs. Help those in need access these resources. 3. Advocate for change: Get involved in initiatives that address the root causes of poverty and hardship in your community and advocate for policies that support those in need. 4. Donate and volunteer: you can assist with food and money. The invisible needy among us are often overlooked, but their suffering is real and deserving of our attention.
