UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP OF THE DAY! Pronunciation 🗣️: goo-HYE-nah The Guhayna are a nomadic Sudanese Arab tribe whose name is synonymous with all Sudanese nomads. A common culture binds these Sudanese Arabs with other Arabs around the world: rigid codes of honor, loyalty and hospitality. Ministry Obstacles Conversion from Islam to Christianity is not accepted and there can be serious consequences. Consequently, there are few Sudanese Arabs who follow Christ. Despite Christian workers in Sudan for many years, most effort concentrates on the southern Sudanese, neglecting the country's Muslim majority. Outreach Ideas There are a number of gospel resources in their language. Pray for opportunities to use these tools effectively. Scripture Focus "For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself." Hebrews 3:3 Scripture Prayer Pray for God to grant this people group the wisdom to know that Jesus’ glory far exceeds the glory of any human prophet. Prayer Focus There are probably a few followers of Christ among the Guhayna people. Pray they would live holy lives and would be joyful always, praying continually and giving thanks to the Lord in all circumstances. Pray God would use them to draw the entire Guhayna tribe to Jesus Christ. Please pray for adequate rainfall for the crops and livestock of the Guhayna Arabs and for pure drinking water. UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP OF THE DAY! Pronunciation 🗣️: keek (WAH-kee) The name of this people group sounds exotic, and the Wakhi definitely fulfill that descriptive term. They live along China's border with Pakistan in the Khunjerab Valley, the valley of blood. Small in number, they are inclusive, living in extended families and usually marrying within their clan. The Wakhi are Shia Muslims who also practice a wide variety of animistic rituals. Ministry Obstacles They are hard to reach in their remote location. In addition, their religious views do not allow for an essential Savior. Outreach Ideas While missionaries were active in the region inhabited by the Wakhi back in the 1920s and 1930s, no one accepted Christ. Most likely, few members of this people group have ever heard of, much less responded to, the gospel of Christ. While radio and online ministry could be useful, it is more likely that someone will need to go to the Wakhi to share God's love with them. Scripture Focus "How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard," Hebrews 2:3 Scripture Prayer Pray that this people group would not ignore good news of salvation announced by the Lord Jesus. Prayer Focus Pray for the Wakhi to have the opportunity to hear the gospel. Pray for the Lord to raise up mission workers who are willing to learn the language and go to this remote area of the globe. Pray for the Bible to be translated into the Wakhi language. UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP OF THE DAY! Pronunciation 🗣️: ee-LAH-van The Ilavan people work as toddy-tappers. This means they extract sap from palms such as coconut and palmyra to make an alcoholic beverage. They grow coconut, palm and sugar. Most Ilavan people in Sri Lanka are now farmers. Others are builders, chauffeurs, handymen, truck drivers and taxi drivers. Ministry Obstacles Ilavan people in Sri Lanka practice Hinduism, the ancient religion of South Asia. For centuries, they have believed that the Hindu gods are the only ones who can provide for their needs. There is also a lot of social pressure to remain in the Hindu fold. Outreach Ideas Since the Ilavan people don't have a god they can lean on for love and actual care, they might be drawn to the God of the Bible if someone would go to them. Scripture Focus "Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world." Pronunciation 🗣️: moorh The Moors of Sri Lanka trace their ancestry to Arab traders who settled to the island nation sometime between the eighth and fifteenth centuries. Muslim merchants arrived in large numbers, married local women and stayed. The Buddhist Sinhalese and the Hindu Tamils fought a devasting civil war in Sri Lanka from 1983 to 2009. Most Moors tried to stay neutral in the war. Others supported the Hindus who spoke Tamil. Ministry Obstacles The Moors must understand the true nature of Jesus Christ. He is much more than a human prophet. Being Muslim is an integral part of the Moors' identity. Outreach Ideas The main language of the Sri Lankan Moors is Tamil. The complete Tamil Bible is available. Other Tamil resources include the JESUS Film, Gospel Recordings and God's Story. Prayer Focus There are few if any known Christian believers among the Moors of Sri Lanka. Pray that the believers who speak Tamil in southern India would develop a burden for the Moors of Sri Lanka. Pray for healing among the major ethnic groupings on the island. Pray that the Moors would tune in to Tamil radio and TV broadcasts. UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP OF THE DAY! Pronunciation 🗣️: BOGE-poo-ree bee-HA-ree The world is truly a melting pot of peoples. Migration is common. Such is the case of the Bhojpuri Bihari. During and soon after colonial days, a large number of people from the Bihar Province of British India moved about to work as indentured laborers. Some went to South Africa, where they found employment and were able to establish themselves by working on sugar cane, cocoa, rice and rubber plantations. Today, they are most likely to be businessmen. Ministry Obstacles Most of the Bihari of South Africa practice Hinduism, and only a few claim to be Christians of any sort. That is a start, but they remain unreached. Outreach Ideas The Bihari in South Africa have prospered, are better educated, and have a higher rate of literacy than ever before. It is possible to reach the better educated Bihari with printed resources. However, visual means, such as the JESUS Film, will be more effective with those who either can't or won't read in the Bhojpuri language. Scripture Focus "Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you," 2 Thessalonians 3:1 Scripture Prayer Make this your prayer for this people group. Prayer Focus The Lord has made major inroads among Bhojpuri speakers in India. Pray some would answer the call to reach Hindu Bihari for Christ. UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP OF THE DAY! Pronunciation 🗣️: GA-ree Although the Somali are all Sunni Muslim and share a common cultural heritage, they are divided by language distinctions and clan conflicts. One of these is the Garre sub-tribe. The Garre are located mostly in Kenya and Somalia, but a few live in Ethiopia. Most Garre are nomadic herdsmen, seasonally migrating with their camels, sheep and goats. They live in portable huts made of bent saplings covered with animal skins or woven mats. Ministry Obstacles It is very difficult to reach nomadic people because you must go to them. Are there people willing to live like the Garre to reach them for Christ? Outreach Ideas Reaching nomads is difficult, but not impossible. Muslim and Buddhist missionaries have reached nomads. Why not followers of Christ? There are many stories in the Bible that appeal to nomads, especially those relating to nomads like Abraham. Scripture Focus "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." Colossians 4:5-6 Scripture Prayer Pray for new believers in this people group to have Holy Spirit-led words to say to their elders as they explain their new faith. Prayer Focus As far as we know, there are no believers among the Garre people. Pray for that to change this decade. Pray for the Lord to give the Garre people healthy livestock as a testimony of his goodness and love. Pray for the Garre people to be blessed physically and spiritually by the Lord's people.
