  • 𝗙𝗚 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗔𝗽𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 As part of efforts to combat breast cancer in Nigeria, the Federal Government, in partnership with Roche Nigeria, has launched the Breast Cancer Access Navigation and Testing (BRANT) App. The initiative aims to enhance patient care, streamline support systems, and empower individuals battling the disease. Speaking at the launch ceremony in Abuja, the Director-General of the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), Professor Usman Aliyu, described the programme as a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to a patient-centred approach to healthcare, guided by compassion, innovation, and collaboration. Representing the Director-General, the Director of Cancer Prevention and Control at NICRAT, Dr Usman Waziri, highlighted that the programme would address the mental, physical, and financial challenges faced by breast cancer patients, with a focus on early diagnosis and improved treatment outcomes. “We know that early detection, timely intervention, and seamless access to healthcare resources can significantly alter the course of a diagnosis. With this understanding, this collaboration has worked tirelessly to create a solution that brings patients, healthcare providers, and support networks together in one unified system,” he stated. A Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Oncopadi, Dr Omolola Salako, stressed the importance of leveraging technology to improve cancer care through digital insights and patient feedback. “Oncopadi has developed five digital oncology products to support cancer patients, applying design principles to create effective and user-friendly solutions,” she said. Dr Bolarinwa Oyedeji, Managing Director of Roche Nigeria, noted that the initiative would help close the gap in cancer care by providing patients with guided navigation from diagnosis through treatment. “The app is designed to facilitate patient engagement with specialists, contributing to the overall success of the programme,” he added. The Deputy Country Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Nigeria, Dr Alexander Chimbaru, expressed concern that breast cancer remains the most common cancer globally, with 2.3 million cases diagnosed and 670,000 deaths recorded in 2022. He stated that the BRANT initiative would help reduce these figures by promoting early detection, timely diagnosis, and comprehensive management. He further noted that WHO would support the initiative across the West African region and collaborate with other countries to enhance cancer care. Read Full Details Here: https://lnkd.in/d3jC6E-v

  • 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘀, 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝗗𝗚 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗧 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 The Director General of the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu, has charged staff of the Institute who are involved in procurement activities to strictly abide by procurement laws and ethics. He gave the charge while declaring open a 3-day capacity building for staff of the Institute in collaboration with ICE Target Global Limited, at the NICRAT Headquarters in Abuja, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. The 3-day capacity building was with the theme: Contract Management and Procurement Processes: Ensuring Accountability and Efficiency. Represented by the Acting Director, Administration, Malam Sanusi Musa, the NICRAT Director General charged the participants to take the training serious so as to know the nitty-gritty and all rudiments of contract awards and procurement processes in order to discharge their duties efficiently. He warned that the Institute is not going to tolerate any lapses or inefficiency in contract awards and procurement processes, hence, the need for the concerned staff to listen to the facilitators carefully and take notes appropriately. Prof. Malami stressed that the Institute has put machinery in place to spend all budgeted funds judiciously adhering strictly to the due process of procurement and contract awards. This, according to him, is to ensure that the Institute plays its part in supporting the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration in the prudent management of the country’s meagre resources. The NICRAT DG further noted that the Institute will continue to invest in the training and retraining of all categories of staff, considering its importance in improved productivity and the speedy growth and development of any organization. He commended ICE Target Global Limited for the partnership and assured that the Institute will sustain the partnership and continue to consult them when the need arises. Speaking, the Lead Consultant of ICE Target Global Limited, Steve Elijah, noted that the training is aimed at acquainting procurement officers and those that are saddled with the responsibility of procurement with the laws governing the process.

  • 𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗧 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗣𝗩 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 The Director General of the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu, has revealed that the Institute has concluded plans to launch massive awareness campaign on Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine uptake. He disclosed this when members of International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS) Nigeria Chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja, on Monday February 3, 2025. Prof. Malami noted that NICRAT is conscious of its mandates, hence, places great importance on awareness creation on causes and prevention of all forms of cancers and the general activities of the Institute in the area of research and treatment. He explained that NICRAT has entered into partnership with both local and international organisations to improve cancer research and treatment and boost the capacity of healthcare workers to manage all forms of cancers. He commended the IPVS team for the visit and urged them to work closely with the recently inaugurated National Task Force on Cervical Cancer Elimination (NTF CCE) which has the mandate to ensure the elimination of cervical cancer in the country. Earlier, the IPVS Team Lead, Dr. Marc Steben, commended NICRAT for its effort in combating cancer in Nigeria, stressing that the global community is watching closely the great work NICRAT is doing in the area of the HPV vaccination. He further applauded NICRAT for mobilizing all stakeholders in the fight against cancer to work together, noting that there are many interesting things happening in Nigeria in the area of cancer with many components in place which need to be connected. “If you do research, you have access to data, as fast as you can connect screening, vaccine and cancer data, the faster you will be able to evaluate if your means are directed at the right place,” he said. Dr. Steben formally invited the NICRAT Director General to serve as Guest Speaker in this year’s International HPV Awareness Day which will take in Abuja. Speaking, the Country Ambassador/Caretaker President IPVS, Nigeria Chapter, Prof. Mohammed Manga, advised NICRAT to catalogue all adverse effects discovered during HPV vaccination since the beginning of the flag-off in the country last year. He reiterated that this is eight months after the initial flag-off of the HPV vaccine in the country, hence, the need for a comprehensive list of those who had adverse effect in the first one week, one month and six months of the flag-off. He said that the catalogue of the adverse effect will help in demystifying the myth people have on the HPV vaccination uptake. Prof. Manga further explained that IPVS has membership across the world and there are different forms of membership in which one of them is group membership and urged technical staff of NICRAT can join. #NICRAT #HPVvaccineNG #IPVS
