Ms. Aisha Rimi, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), attended the recent launch of the Joint Promotion Council (JPC) between Nigeria and China in Beijing. The initiative aims to enhance bilateral relations, focusing on trade, investment, and infrastructure development. The JPC will provide a platform for dialogue, facilitate business exchanges, and address trade-related challenges, ultimately fostering stronger economic ties and encouraging mutual investment between the two nations.

The NIPC participated in a series of events over several days at the recently concluded FOCAC. Supporting our President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR at his meetings in Huawei and CRCC; we also held meetings with numerous groups of potential investors; visited and met with officials of Chinese companies engaged in activities in Nigeria, from construction, to mining, agriculture and so on; we held an interactive business session; participated in a business forum in conjunction with FMITI and MFA and witnessed the signing of an agreement between LASG and TGI Group for the development of rice milling operations. On the sidelines of TICAD Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo, Japan, the ES/CEO, NIPC, Ms Aisha Rimi, met with Senior Project Manager, Africa, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Senior Professional, Nippon Electric Company (NEC) to discuss business support and prospects of upscaling their investments in Nigeria. Additionally, Ms Rimi met with the Chairman/CRO, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and his team to reinforce collaboration and offer mutual support; Ms Rimi also met with the Principal deputy Director, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the CEO of Asia Africa Investment and Consulting Pte. LTD (AAIC). Discussions centered around exploring investment opportunities in Nigeria by Japanese companies, business support programs for Nigerian startups, capacity building, and support for Japanese companies in Nigeria, among others.

Bilateral meeting with JICA Highlights from Day 1 at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. NIPC participated at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo, Japan. On Day-1, the HM, Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar and ES/CEO, NIPC, Ms. Aisha Rimi had a bilateral meeting with the President of (JICA). Discussion centred on JICA’s support to Nigeria in the areas of Education, Agriculture and Health among others. He informed that they were in the process of designing the Next Innovation with Japan (NINJA) for start-ups, which holds great prospects for collaboration with Nigeria. Amb. Tuggar thanked JICA for their support in different areas like the hydroelectric project, polio, etc. He noted that the start-up project would create jobs for Nigerians and called for further collaborations and partnerships to build capacity and provide scholarships. On her part, Ms Rimi lauded JICA’s support to NIPC through the Africa Business Initiative (ABE Initiative) and looked forward to productive discussions and more opportunities for partnerships.

On Day 2 of the 19th CII India-Africa Conclave, Executive Secretary/CEO NIPC, Ms. Aisha Rimi discussed "Leveraging Regional Production Networks to Enhance Global Value Chains." She highlighted NIPC’s role in #IPAWAS and emphasised the importance of #ETLS and #AfCFTA in boosting trade and investment across Africa. Panellists included H.E. This follows their June 2024 meeting in Beijing during the China-Nigeria Business Exchange, where Ms. Aisha Rimi, CEO of NIPC, and Ms. Liu discussed boosting technological advancements, foreign investments, and economic ties between Nigeria and China. Huawei aims to enhance Nigeria's digital infrastructure with its advanced tech in 5G, smartphones, and cloud services. We ended our SW tour with a working visit to the headquarters of ExxonMobil. ExxonMobil, through its affiliates, has been in Nigeria for 60 plus years and has no plans to exit the country.
