When the idea of the Africa Arbitration Day was first conceived two years ago, we could not move things forward because we were then finalizing the Africa Arbitration Academy's Model Bilateral Investment Treaty for African State. The Model BIT was launched in 2022 and two years down the line, we had the first Africa Arbitration Day- Washington DC on September 26, 2024. We had the privilege of having Dr. Victoria Kwakwa - Vice President, Eastern and Southern Africa at The World Bank present the certificates of participation to the attendees of the Africa Arbitration Academy's Executive Training Program on Investment Arbitration for In-house Counsel and State Officials, organized in collaboration with the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). This year's training program had high-profile participants from 10 African countries including the Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Attorney General of Malawi, Director Legal at the Ministry of Energy in Ghana, Member of the Capital Market Commission of Burundi, staff of the African Development Bank, Deputy Minister of Mines and Minerals of Sierra Leone, the Head Legal at KCB Bank in Kenya, the Senior Legal Officer and Head of Arbitration at the Ministry of Justice in Tanzania, Senior Legal Counsel at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Chief State Counsel at the Ministry of Justice in Nigeria, and Counsel at the Social Security Fund in Uganda.
