In July 2024, the Director of The Association for Spanish Language Advancement in Nigeria (SLANG Global), Professor Uchenna P. Vasser debuted the MASK-WE Project to an enthusiastic audience at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. The MASK-WE Project is an initiative of SLANG Global aimed at empowering young, unemployed Nigerian women. Sounds intriguing, right? MASK-WE merges two global artforms by using indigenous wooden masks and inscribing Mexican alebrije art on them. The MASK-WE Project teaches young women the process of making and painting the masks.
