"Imagine a world where farmers are empowered, their incomes grow, and their communities thrive…"   That’s the future we’re building at Sunbeth Global Concept Limited (SGC), and it was a key focus of our discussions at the just-concluded Amsterdam Chocoa Week.   Our Sustainability Director, Oyinkansola Owoyemi, joined Anna Laven, Anika Altaf, Valerie Janssen, Andrews Asamoah, Selma van der Haar, and Joost Backer, to highlight the urgent need to support the often-overlooked farmers and workers in the cocoa supply chain.   She emphasized: "Supporting the local farmers who contribute significantly to Nigeria’s success as a global cocoa leader is a key priority for SGC. Jason Green, the newly appointed CEO of SFI UK, our strategic business unit based in the UK, recently visited cocoa farming communities within our sourcing network and our warehouses in Ondo and Ogun States. This visit is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a supply chain that meets global standards and fulfills our trading commitments with integrity and excellence. During the visit, Jason and key members of our leadership team connected directly with the hardworking cocoa farmers, our dedicated sustainability field officers, and our warehouse teams. They witnessed first-hand the positive impacts of our ethical sourcing mechanisms and traceability initiatives, gaining valuable insights into the realities of sustainable cocoa production. Earlier this week, we had the incredible opportunity to participate as recruiters at the Lagos State Job Fair, a remarkable initiative by the Lagos State Government aimed at tackling unemployment and connecting job seekers with opportunities. The event had thousands of prospects in attendance, which enabled us to engage with several job seekers and have conversations about the career opportunities available in our company. With a population of 1.4 billion and a combined GDP of $3 trillion, Africa presents a significant opportunity for investors and corporations in the GCC. The full implementation of AfCFTA has further strengthened this potential by reducing trade barriers and creating a unified market, enabling businesses to expand seamlessly across the continent. These opportunities took centre stage as our Managing Director; Olasunkanmi Owoyemi participated in a panel session at the Global Trade Review Conference in Dubai, alongside George RR Wilson, Robert Besseling, Geoffrey White, and Zhann Meyer. The discussion explored the relationship between AfCFTA implementation and the potential for increased trade collaborations with the GCC. Speakers examined how GCC nations can leverage more seamless trade ties with African markets, unveiling key opportunities, trade balances, and the investment levels required for AfCFTA’s full realization.
