One thing I learnt this year is that uncomfortable curves and twists can also lead to beautiful places. Last year I was at a job that tested me so much. My mental health was at stake. Early this year, I had to leave. But I had some good things happen to me there. First, I was introduced to the beautiful world of tech. UI/UX piqued my interest enough to include it to my vision board for 2024. The aim was to gather some funds and go learn UI/UX but stuff kept coming up…. Secondly, a colleague at this job introduced me to the 3MTT Nigeria program which I almost didn’t apply for, because “government stuff”. I reluctantly applied and took my mind off. Few months later, I got accepted into the cohort 2 of the program, and it’s been an amazing experience so far. I’ve found purpose. I’ve found a sense of fulfillment. I almost can’t put how I feel into words. I mean, I’m already participating in challenges on some design spaces. There’s so much potential. Hope. Day 11: MY TOP METRICS In my role as a business program manager at The RootHub I focus on ensuring that every project and training program we deliver meets its objectives and drives real impact. Some of the key metrics I use to measure success are: 1. Participant Growth and Engagement: Success is about the personal and professional growth of our trainees and interns. I look at engagement, retention, and how well they apply what they've learned to gauge the long-term impact of our programs. 2. Trainee and Client Satisfaction: For me, the success of any program is rooted in how well it serves the participants. I constantly check feedback to ensure that the training or internship meets their needs and exceeds their expectations. 3. On-time Delivery: Whether it's a training module or an internship cycle, staying on schedule is essential. Timely execution reflects solid planning and helps maintain the momentum we need to keep everything moving smoothly. 4. Budget Adherence: Every program has a budget, and staying within it is crucial. I monitor the financials closely to make sure we’re delivering maximum value while keeping costs under control. 5. Alignment with Business Goals: It’s important to me that each program contributes to our larger goals at The Roothub. Whether it's growing the impact of our training programs or driving innovation through internships, I measure how each initiative supports our mission. All these metrics help me ensure that everything we do is meaningful, efficient, and aligned with our goals, creating lasting value for both the individuals and the organization. #wearetheroothub

I am currently sharpening my project management skills with the Google Project Management Course from Grow with Google on Coursera through The RootHub scholarship and a very important concept in building a high functioning team popped up. The concept of psychological safety is regarded as the most important factor when building an effective team. Psychological safety is the belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes. A lot of businesses and teams in #Africa especially need to become aware of this concept as it is common practice for organizations and teams to name and maim team members with differing opinions. There's a whole lot more to say on this but I strongly advocate that everyone who runs an organization would do their own research on this concept. The lack of psychological safety is one of the major reasons employees and team members are not loyal to organizations, businesses and teams. #Nigeria Google Coursera #ProjectCertify

Today is specially for my people in Tech! 😅 I've got to interact with a lot of "tech bros" and one thing I get from most of them is that they don't need the skill of Public Speaking. To begin, Public Speaking is a universal skill; one that is as old as time and needed by everybody. I often say that everyone can "talk" but not everyone can "speak." Speaking is a skill that we all need irrespective of our fields because we will all get the need to interact with one another in due time. Public speaking is not only meant for Leaders, Lawyers, Communication experts, etc. As a "Tech bro," you will definitely need this skill. If you still believe you don't, answer the following questions then: 1. How else would you be able to convey your ideas effectively? 2. How would you be able to make good pitches for your software? 3. How will you be able to effectively relate with your clients? During my time at The RootHub one thing I observed was that the interns there were required to make presentations every week. This act is the reality of most Developers of Software engineers who hope to work for companies. Lets do away with the misconception that as a person in "Tech," you don't need to master the Art of Public Speaking because in truth, you need it more than you realise.
