About us
Yield-Up Development Initiative, with the name Y-dev Initiative for short. We are building a generation of young people on the quest to address the underserved children and young adults in areas of unmet social needs. Hence, one of our projects on this cause focuses on youths (children and young adults) living with disabilities. Project BALE - Build A Local Eco-Friendly Library is an established center that will be built with a "bale" of plastic waste bottles to reduce discrimination & improve disability inclusion in rural environments Through the library, we are closing the gaps in literacy and empowerment of youth with disabilities by constructing sustainable libraries using reused plastic bottles, and facilitating reading development in a supportive environment with the assistance of service and therapy dogs.

Effective Altruism is a concept that focuses on best ways to help others, and put them into practice. Our Executive Director, Praise Akobo attended a two-day Effective Altruism (EA) summit hosted by Effective Altruism Nigeria in partnership with the Centre for Effective Altruism. This event brought together changemakers from across Nigeria and the world to address critical global challenges with impactful, cost-effective solutions. The summit provided a valuable platform for sharing insights, exploring partnerships, and networking with like-minded individuals and organizations. Amongst other speakers, notably, BudgIT Nigeria’s Country Director, Gabriel Okeowo -Bsc., MPDI, Msc. presented and showcased the Tracka App; a tool empowering citizens to track public projects and promote accountability, hence, we also highlighted the importance of disability inclusion features incorporation across Apps and in monitoring projects which was embraced. We look forward to future collaborations. #effectivealtruism #networking #collaborations #growth #disabilityinclusion

Our Executive Director, Praise Akobo, participated in the National Mental Health Programme for World Mental Health Day, where the contextualized mhGAP 3.0 was launched. Hosted by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the event highlighted prioritizing mental health in the workplace, this is important to us especially how mental health challenges disproportionately affect persons with disabilities, who often face additional barriers in the workplace. The Hon. Minister of Health, represented by Permanent Secretary Mrs. Kachollom Shanti Daju, launched the World Health Organization (WHO) mhGAP, customized to improve mental health services in Nigeria. Let’s work together to create supportive, inclusive environments for all. #worldmentalhealthday2024 #disabilityinclusion #collaboration

At YieldUp Development Initiative, we celebrate International Girl Child Day tagged Girls’ Vision for the Future. We envision a world where every girl is protected, respected, and empowered, regardless of her abilities (disabilities). By investing in the potential of girls, including those with disabilities, we are shaping our futures and theirs. When girls succeed, we move closer to achieving the Global Goals and foster a more inclusive society which we are doing through education, creativity, advocacy, and technology. Together, let's create a future where all girls, regardless of their abilities, can achieve their dreams. 💥 #Internationaldayofthegirochild #EmpowerGirls #InclusionMatters #DisabilityRights #GlobalGoals

World Mental Health Day remains profound for us as it is centric to our focal group. 💥 Mental Health At Work is key and fosters work-life balance for everyone, hence a person’s disability does not define their identity, so we are lending our voice to ensuring inclusive workplaces to curb mental health distress Also, our Executive Director, Praise Akobo speaks today at the Inaugural Event of the MindMend NeuroRevive Initiative led by Timothy Amana in commemoration of World Mental Health Day, 2024. 🗓 Date: October 10th, 2024 📍 Location: Zoom 🕒 Time: 9 pm Registration Link:https://lnkd.in/gYHpKgnr #worldmentalhealthday2024 #wmhd #yieldupdevelopmentinitiative
