"What Time Can Do" is the fourth album from the London-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Nick Haeffner. Four years in the making, the new album is bursting with ideas, both musical and lyrical, and marks a new stage in the evolution of Nick’s music. Whereas the 2019 album "A New Life Awaits You" was conceived as a follow up to Nick’s debut album 'The Great Indoors', the new album strikes out in new directions. In addition to the folk, psychedelic, experimental and orchestral sounds of the earlier material there are latin, jazz and dub influences. There’s also a considerable amount of creative input from Marcus Holdaway (High Llamas, Stereolab, Colourway).
Lyrically, the album is always original and often poignant. The deceptive lightness of the music conceals darker and more bittersweet pre-occupations with aging, mental health, Margaret Thatcher’s legacy, loneliness, the metaverse, work/life balance, physical imperfection, cats and ghosts.

Nick's first exposure was as a member of cult indie band Clive Pig and the Hopeful Chinamen. Subsequently he joined The Tea
Set, with whom he recorded 2 singles and an album before releasing a highly acclaimed solo album 'The Great Indoors' in 1986. The album was an eclectic mixture of psychedelia, folk rock, new wave and classical music, favourably compared with Nick Drake and Syd Barrett....more

It's been many moons since Nick Haeffner released the captivating and uniquely beautiful The Great Indoors. Like that album, this isn't just a set of songs, it's a varied and entrancing experience. There's psychedelia, experimental sound collage, unexpected rhythmic shifts, and songwriting that rests everything on a strong foundation. There's a cover of the great Joe Meek tune "I Hear A New World" and the title words could describe stepping into Nick Haeffner's "New Life". Andy Waltzer

A wonderful album of deeply atmospheric melodic instrumental music. The scope is varied but the sense of a scene (internal and external) being conjured is a constant. Damian is known for his presence in The Undertones and That Petrol Emotion but for those who recall his album (on Alan Mcgee's post Creation label Poptones) A Quiet Revolution, this is in that vein. Dreamy, intricate guitar pop from Oakland's Absent City; splashes of accordion, sitar, lap steel, and mandolin add textural richness. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 26, 2020
