Connecting Industry Expertise

Over ons

The Advanced Cell Technology Industrial Platform (ACTIP) is an independent non-profit association of European companies and institutions engaged in the industrial use of advanced cell technology for research, development and/or production of biotherapeutics (e.g. antibodies, proteins, vaccines, cell & gene therapies) and other areas. ACTIP was established in 1990 at the request of the European Commission to improve the transition of fundamental animal cell technology research to commercial applications. Composed of European industry members, the platform set itself the task to initiate and enabling intensive networking among cell technology experts in industry, academia, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders to increase European competitiveness. Over the years the scope of ACTIP has expanded from being not only focused on animal cell technologies, but to include other types of advanced cell technology applications. Through numerous scientific meetings, networking activities, position papers and active support to early career scientists, ACTIP has become a respected European and worldwide recognised association connecting industry expertise.

Last week, on May 23-24, the Advanced Cell Technology Industrial Platform (ACTIP) scientific meeting took place in Lisbon, Portugal, hosted by our member company ValGenesis. The event kicked off with an exclusive guided tour of ibet Group and GenIbet Biopharmaceuticals, offering insights into their research, development and production activities and state-of-the-art facilities. Thereafter, the scientific program featured interesting presentations on the latest advancements of artificial intelligence (AI) applications for process development & optimization, the leveraging of prior knowledge, and platform manufacturing approaches. In addition, four early career scientists awarded with the ACTIP fellowship, presented their winning research projects. Of course, our time in Lisbon wouldn't have been complete without some sightseeing and tasty Portuguese cuisine. I would like to thank the invited speakers, member company representatives, fellows and guests for their invaluable contributions and for making the meeting such a successful scientific and networking event! Special thanks to Angela Martinho and Rita Martinho for their exceptional organizational support. We look forward to the next ACTIP meeting hosted by CSL Innovation GmbH on 7-8 November 2024 in Marburg, Germany.

The Advanced Cell Technology Industrial Platform (ACTIP) Fellowship Award is a great opportunity for early career scientists to present their work to an audience of industry experts and practitioners. Many interesting discussions and collaborations started in this way. For me personally, the Award was my first contact with ACTIP. The specific atmosphere of openness and respect was a lasting experience. I felt welcome and accepted and received a lot of very relevant input for my PhD thesis. From my own experience, I can only recommend young scientists to apply!

The Advanced Cell Technology Industrial Platform (ACTIP) invites early career scientists working on a research project in biomanufacturing or related activity (i.e., bioprocesses, expression systems, cell line development, gene & cell therapies, bioassays, bioinformatics) to apply for the ACTIP fellowship award. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to present your research at a two-day ACTIP scientific meeting, interact with cell technology experts and receive a €1000 prize! For more information about the award, please visit the ACTIP website: https://lnkd.in/ddrmtgzv

  • We are thrilled to introduce our new ACTIP chairman, Jochen B. Sieck, PhD, MBA from Merck Life Science! Talk about coming full circle – back in 2012, Jochen was awarded the ACTIP Fellowship. He's been part of our Steering Committee for quite several years, and now he's taking the reins. Jochen has lots of ACTIP-specific experience, having represented both Novartis and Merck as a deputy company representative. He hosted the 2019 fall meeting in Darmstadt on behalf of Merck. As a Steering Committee member, he's been there with us through thick and thin, especially during the challenging times of the pandemic. Together, we braved those uncertain waters and celebrated ACTIP’s 30th anniversary meeting in Madrid last year. Our decision to appoint Jochen as the new chairman was a no-brainer. Our members unanimously agreed during the Dublin meeting in mid-October. In an ever-changing environment, #ACTIP will need to evolve to stay on the course. We're all in this together and ready to keep ACTIP's core mission alive – bringing industry experts together, staying on the cutting edge, and tackling the technological and global economic challenges in the world of advanced cell technology. At the same time, we want to express mountains of gratitude to Matthieu Stettler, our outgoing Chairman, for his incredible leadership and dedication to ACTIP. Matthieu has been a key player in our journey, and we can't thank him enough for his dedication and contributions. #AdvancedCellTechnology #IndustryExperts #Biotechnology
