Our future flies in clean skies.
Over ons
AeroDelft is a student team with one mission: prove that emission-free aviation is possible by developing the world’s first liquid hydrogen-powered aircraft. We are executing our mission with Project Phoenix, by designing and manufacturing two aircraft; a 1:3 scale prototype and a full scale Sling 4 aircraft both powered by hydrogen. Our aim is to build the first manned aircraft to fly on liquid hydrogen to remove CO2 emissions altogether by using this very potent fuel source. In 2022, our prototype aircraft took to the skies on batteries and our full scale aircraft successfully taxied on a runway. The prototype aircraft is set to take off on hydrogen in 2023 and our full scale aircraft in 2025! Although our main goal is to build the first manned aircraft to fly on liquid hydrogen, we firmly believe that the aviation industry needs to follow our example to remove CO2 emissions from the aviation industry altogether.

Our collaboration with CELLSIUS - Project H2 and Project E-Sling began at the Electrifly-In event in Bern, where we laid the foundation for future cooperation. On September 21st, we had the privilege of attending their Rollout event in Zürich, where we further strengthened our relationship. Cellsius, a Swiss student team, shares our commitment to making aviation more sustainable through hydrogen solutions. It was insightful to learn about their innovative approach and discuss shared challenges. We are grateful for the invitation and look forward to further collaboration as we work together toward a more sustainable aviation industry. #aerodelft #hydrogen #cleanskies #aviation #sustainability #innovation #students #tudelft #aircraft #greenenergy #fuelcell #aerospace #zeroemissions #sustainableaviation #hydrogenaviation #climateaction #engineering #technology #switzerland #electrifly #swissaviation #hydrogenpowered #greenflight #climatefriendlytravel #ethzurich #cellsius

Our team recently participated in a practical workshop with both MIG and TIG welding, focusing on steel and aluminium under the expert guidance of a TU Delft instructor. This valuable experience allowed us to deepen our understanding of welding procedures and enhance our ability to optimise structural designs with manufacturability in mind. Welding is an essential skill for our team, especially when creating testing rigs for our aircraft components. By mastering it, we can expedite the testing process, reduce reliance on external assistance, and take full control of jig manufacturing for various parts. We’re excited to continue developing our hands-on skills and improving our capabilities for future projects! 💪🛩️ #AeroDelft #WeldingWorkshop #Welding #AviationEngineering #Manufacturability #Innovation #Engineering #TestingRigs #HandsOnExperience #EngineeringWorkshop #Teamwork #Aviation #Sustainability #Hydrogen #SustainableAviation #MechanicalEngineering

A week ago we had the pleasure of hosting a workshop with our partner Schwer Fittings BV, specialists in high-quality stainless steel fittings perfect for the pipes in both our gaseous and liquid hydrogen systems! In both theory and practice, we learned the precise technique to properly install their fittings and discovered how durable and easy-to-use they are, even in cryogenic applications. With expert guidance from Schwer’s team, we got hands-on experience working with their U2 fittings, building confidence in assembling these valuable components which are key to supporting our gaseous and liquid hydrogen systems. Finally, we had a friendly competition - two teams racing to assemble an array of pipes and fittings - to test our engineers’ newfound skills and competitive spirit! A huge thank you to Schwer Fittings BV for an informative, fascinating and engaging session! #engineering #cryogenics #aerodelft #hydrogen #cleanskies #aviation #sustainability #sustainable #innovation #students #delft #aircraft #greenenergy #fuelcell #aerospace #zeroemissions #aerospaceengineering #sustainableaviation #sustainablefuel #hydrogenaviation #schwer #schwerfittings

The arrival of our 700 bar tank marks a major step towards our test flight on gaseous hydrogen! To fit hydrogen into our 2-seater aircraft, it’s compressed to this high pressure, allowing the tank to store 2.1 kilograms (or 51 liters) of gaseous hydrogen. However, before the hydrogen enters the fuel cell stack, the pressure will need to be stepped down to 10, and eventually to 1.8 bar(g). To ensure that our system functions as planned, we’re preparing to test both the 700 bar tank and the pressure regulation system before the end of the year. Stay tuned to see how it all goes! #AeroDelft #SustainableAviation #Innovation #Hydrogen #FutureOfFlight #WorkWithUs #Engineering #AviationTech #GreenAviation #Aircraft #Students #Aerospace #Delft #HydrogenAviation #Sustainability #Zeroemissions #GreenEnergy #AerospaceEngineering
