Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 14:00 to 17:30
On Thursday, October 3, 2024, the third edition of the Circular Economy Festival will take place at the Utrecht Science Park.
This festival is entirely dedicated to the Circular Economy in the Utrecht region, with a special focus on regional collaboration around the themes of circular procurement, business activity, and space. The institute 4 a Circular Society will be hosting multiple sessions:
14:15 – 15:15: Plenary session Circular opportunities in procurement and tendering
Willem A. Janssen 🟥 - Scientific Coordinator of our #UrbanRuralCircularity research line - will address the question of whether circular procurement should be made mandatory. The key question is what role the law should play. He advocates for making sustainable procurement mandatory, with circular procurement as one of the options.
15:45 – 17:00: Workshops: parallel sessions
Workshop 1: Circular Hospitals
In this workshop, Florijn Dekkers - Scientific Coordinator of our #CircularSafeHospitals research line - will explore innovative strategies to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare through circular alternatives. Topics include developing safe circular options for medical disposables in the OR and ICU, reducing medication-related waste, implementing sustainable strategies for medical devices and procedures, and designing future-proof patient diets that balance nutrition and circularity.
Workshop 2: Circular procurement: exploring obstacles and opportunities in law, policy and practice
In the workshop Willem A. Janssen 🟥 will delve further into circular procurement from three perspectives, exploring obstacles and opportunities for using procurement to contribute to the circular transition. He will speak about the current legal framework of procurement law, ans will show that a lot is already possible, despite the limitations.
