We collaborated, we iterated, we live pitched... and we delivered! The last of the two hoops in the final stage of the Deloitte #GravityChallenge is done. Our proposed solution to a real-wine-world problem has been submitted. It's been an intense and true practice of innovative collaboration with our partners and good friends at Big Terra and Challenger Alliance Wine ... and that's already a big win! As satellite-based agridata & wine industry experts 🛰️ 🍾, regenerative engineers 👩🏼🌾 , and tech wizards 🧙🏼♂️, we came together to meet Alliance Wine's challenge to redefine the landscape of carbon intake in vineyard management. And, we hope, we've taken it further! Fingers crossed and huge thanks to the team: Gabriel Tual, Pavel Juruš, Paul (Pavel) Kucera, Lukáš Tůma, Aleksandr Kazantsev, Andreina Romero 🍇. A shoutout to Kevin B., Aleš Hamhalter, Mollie Martin and Samantha Maxine Santos from Deloitte's GRAVITY Challenge team for keeping us on track. Last and DEFINITELY not least, thanks to Alliance Wine's Marta Juega, PhD for her continuous support, input & brainstorm, and for being a massive collaborative help 🍷 in the past few months! Watch this space (pun intended) as we continue growing on the journey to make regenerative viticulture mainstream. #GravityChallenge06 #SpaceTech #AgTech #RegenerativeViticulture #Wine #SustainableWine
We came, we saw, we collaborated and we live pitched (well, online 😎) for the GRAVITY Challenge. First of the two hoops in the final stage of the Deloitte #GravityChallenge done, now to send the final written proposal! Whatever the result, this has truly been a case of the journey of collaboration with our partners and good friends at ALMOSTO and Challenger Alliance Wine being the goal. Fingers crossed and huge thanks to Aleš Hamhalter for dropping this amazing opportunity onto our radar last year! And of course big thanks (but please continue working until next week 🤣) to the team: Andreina Romero 🍇, Pavel Juruš, Gabriel Tual, Lukáš Tůma, Aleksandr Kazantsev, Paul (Pavel) Kucera and of course Kevin B. and Mollie Martin from Deloitte. Last and DEFINITELY not least, to Alliance Wine's Marta Juega, PhD for putting up with us the last few months and being a massive collaborative help 🍷! #GravityChallenge06 #SpaceTech #AgTech #RegenerativeViticulture #Wine #SustainableWine

“Our findings indicate that all seven [regenerative agriculture] practices effectively increased the carbon sequestration rate.” Just in time for the weekend, a very important piece of research from Jessica Villat and Kimberly Nicholas highlighting the potential of regenerative practices for carbon intake in crops and vineyards. Exciting times to be working on a carbon intake tool for vineyards (with our partners of Big Terra) and the design of a vitiforestry living lab (from Pine to Wine) with our partners at QXote. DM us up for any collabs and exchange of experiences. Cc: Big Terra , QXote #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativeviticulture #sustainablewine #vitiforestry

🌿🍇🐑👩🌾 Unveiling the Power of Regenerative Agriculture for Farmers! 🌱 Exciting News - My First Peer-Reviewed Paper! Hey Farmers and Sustainability Enthusiasts! 👩🌾🌿🌳 Thrilled to share groundbreaking insights from my first peer-reviewed paper, a collaboration with the incredible Kimberly Nicholas! 📑✨ There’s huge interest in carbon-sequestration and regenerative farming. Yet, very little data quantifies how much regenerative agriculture increases carbon storage in soils. In our study, we delved into 650+ papers, analyzing 345 data points to unravel regenerative farming's power in carbon storage. 📊 Focusing on practices enhancing soil health, biodiversity, long-term productivity, and people's health and well-being. Here are seven regenerative approaches to boosting carbon storage! 🌍 1️⃣ Animal Integration 🐑: Cropland benefits from sheep grazing, contributing to soil and livestock health. 2️⃣ Non-Chemical Pest Management 🚫🌾: Natural pest control strategies replacing chemicals. 3️⃣ Cover Crop 🌱: Vegetation between crops enhancing biodiversity and soil fertility! 4️⃣ Legume Cover Crop 🍀: Nitrogen-fixing cover crops reducing the need for fertilizers. 5️⃣ No-Tillage 🚫🚜: Reduced or rotational tillage preserving soil structure. 6️⃣ Agroforestry 🌳: Trees and shrubs into main crops, providing benefits and diversifying farms. 7️⃣ Non-Chemical Fertilizer 🌿: Switch from synthetic to organic fertilizers promoting long-term soil health. How much carbon can regenerative farming practices sequester? Imagine: agroforestry on arable land could sequester an average of 1.22 tons of carbon per hectare annually. A winegrower adding a cover crop can sequester an average of 1.32 tons of carbon per hectare per year. Hint: Combining practices might be the key! 🔄 Our study suggests synergies, like pairing cover crops with no-tillage, may lead to greater carbon storage. Don’t know where to start? We suggest practical ways, like cover-cropping with no-tillage or non-chemical pest management, sequestering the most carbon and perceived as easiest to adopt. Here's the kicker: Woody perennials, like grapevines, can absorb more carbon than annual crops, making winegrowing ideal for regen ag. 🍇 🏛️🙌 Big shoutout to Harvard Extension School and Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS) for making this research possible! Curious about potential benefits for your farm or vineyard? 📚 Click here to dive into the full study in Frontiers, share your thoughts below, and tag someone interested! ➡ https://lnkd.in/eU8BYCdD #RegenerativeAgriculture #Agroecology #Biodiversity #ClimateAction #FoodAsMedicine #AnimalIntegration
