This weekend, like many across the UK, I found myself online before 9 am on Saturday, trying to secure tickets for the highly anticipated Oasis reunion via Ticketmaster.co.uk. Unfortunately, as was the case for countless others, my attempt was unsuccessful.
The experience was plagued by numerous issues: being kicked out of the queue, the website crashing, and painfully slow loading times.
Given my background in the specialized field of network testing, I immediately recognized the root of the problem: a massive spike in network traffic that overwhelmed Ticketmaster's servers.
For years, the testing industry has largely been dominated by telecom companies, network equipment manufacturers, government/military, and large enterprises. These organizations understand the critical importance of pre-production and lab testing of products and services before they are deployed on live networks.
Yet, there are still many enterprises that fail to see the value in pre-production testing or preparing their networks for traffic spikes during high-demand events, such as what we saw this weekend.
I wanted to pose a question to my LinkedIn community:
Should network testing, including generating simulated user traffic, be an integral part of your business strategy?
