This picture is telling, but it's only the tip of the iceberg. 🌊❄️ The picture says it all, showing the stark contrast between 1985 and 2021. What was once a vast expanse of multi-year, stable sea ice is now a patchwork of thin, young ice struggling to survive each season. This change isn't just about numbers, a worrying decrease of more than 40% of summer sea ice surface – it's a tangible loss of a unique environment that helps regulate our planet’s climate. From a vast expanse of white ice, to a blue horizon of water. At Arctic Reflections, we believe that we can counter this decline. With our ice-thickening methodology, we aim to extend the lifetime of Arctic sea ice in the summer, leading to a higher albedo effect. Let us not just reflect on what's lost. Let us take action on what can be saved! 🌍 #SaveTheArctic #ArcticReflections #ClimateAction 📸 credit: NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration ------------- We’re fighting global warming at -30°C, restoring Arctic ice by thickening it in winter, helping to stabilize global temperatures and reduce feedback loops.
Over ons
We are committed to halting the rapid disappearance of Arctic sea ice, which serves as the world’s refrigerator by reflecting the sun’s heat back into space through its white ice sheets.

🧊 Ice-free summers in our lifetime? Our co-founder explains at #ClimateChangeSummit! At the Climate Change Summit ‘24, our co-founder Tom Meijeraan highlighted the alarming decline of Arctic sea ice and the stark reality we may face: ice-free summers as soon as 2030. Why does this matter? Arctic sea ice regulates global temperatures, influences ocean currents, and supports critical ecosystems. 🌊🌍 Without urgent action, we risk devastating consequences for biodiversity, sea levels, and our climate. The good news is that we are committed to slowing this trend. Join us to stay updated! Watch this powerful 1-minute clip to understand why Arctic Reflections is committed to protecting this fragile region, for today and for future generations. 🌎💙 #ClimateChangeSummit #ArcticReflections #SeaIceDecline #ClimateAction #IceFreeSummers #ArcticPreservation #GlobalWarming #ClimateCrisis #ProtectTheArctic #SustainableFuture

🌊 In the News! 🌍 We're honored to be featured by the European Commission in an article highlighting our mission to protect Arctic sea ice and ecosystems. ❄️ The Arctic is warming four times faster than the rest of the planet, with sea ice disappearing at an alarming rate—impacting global climate, sea levels, and biodiversity. 🌡️ With the support of initiatives like BlueInvest, Arctic Reflections is working to raise awareness, drive policy change, and bring innovative solutions to one of the planet's most fragile and essential regions. This recognition fuels our commitment to safeguarding the Arctic for future generations. 🔗 Read the full article (link in comments) to learn more about our journey and our partnership with BlueInvest! #ArcticReflections #ProtectTheArctic #ClimateAction #ArcticSeaIce #Biodiversity #SustainableFuture

🌍 UN Report: "No More Hot Air" – It's Time to Save the Arctic and Our Planet ❄️ On 24 October 2024, the UN Emissions Gap Report delivered a powerful message: "No more hot air, please." The melting snowman on the report's cover is a strong reminder of the urgency. With the Arctic warming at an alarming rate, we are nearing a dangerous tipping point. Melting sea ice is accelerating global warming, and without immediate action, the consequences could be devastating. At Arctic Reflections, we are committed to contributing to the solution. Through our Arctic sea ice thickening efforts, we aim to help stabilize global temperatures and protect this fragile region. The report calls for a 57% reduction in emissions by 2035—urgent action is essential to save the Arctic and our planet. It’s time to move beyond words and take real steps to safeguard our future. 🌎 #UNClimateReport #ArcticIce #ClimateAction #Sustainability #ArcticReflections

Great to have Veerle Schiet on board! Having lived in Svalbard for a year, she has a really practical mindset, which really helps in preparing our next winter field test!
🌍 Meet our new engineering intern, Veerle Schiet! We’re excited to welcome Veerle to Arctic Reflections, as she joins our mission of restoring Arctic sea ice by pumping seawater on top of it in winter to accelerate freezing. Currently studying mechanical engineering at TU Delft, she brings very relevant knowledge and expertise. Veerle even spent a year in the Arctic already, at UNIS in Svalbard. There, she focused her studies on atmospheric dynamics and sea-ice mechanics, deepening her passion for the Arctic and climate issues. When she’s not immersed in her studies, Veerle loves hiking, climbing, and ski touring. Join us in welcoming her to the team! #ClimateChange #ClimateTech #Sustainability #ArcticReflections

Recent interview by Green Startup with co-founder Tom Meijeraan.
In my recent interview with Oana Coșman, I discussed our mission to restore Arctic sea ice and the innovative techniques we’re using to tackle climate change. “Initiatives like ours, providing a direct cooling impact by maintaining the Arctic ice sheet, should also be seriously considered as part of the mix to counter global warming.” For link to the article, see the first comment 👇 #greenstartups

I had a great couple of days in #NYC Climate Week, meeting many people. Highlight was being able to tell something about our mission at Arctic Reflections to preserve Arctic sea ice, at the "Hope for the Cryosphere" panel discussion organized by Ocean Visions. Thanks again Brad Ack and Kerry Nickols, Ph.D. for the invitation, and for the organization! Ocean Visions' groundbreaking assessment work on pathways to preserve Arctic sea ice is very well researched, and makes a clear case that while rapid CO2-emission reductions are absolutely necessary, they are not enough anymore to avoid a first virtually ice-free summer. Have a look at Ocean Visions' interactive roadmap: https://lnkd.in/enNY58W2 My week on the other side of the ocean ended at CDL-Atlantic in #Halifax, again meeting many people with expertise in ocean-related initiatives. A trip well spent!

🌍❄️ Arctic Reflections: Field Test results released ❄️ We are thrilled to share the Research Summary Report from our April 2024 field test in Svalbard! As many of you know, Arctic Reflections is committed to restoring Arctic Sea Ice as part of the fight against global warming. In this field test we rigorously tested ice thickening by pumping water from beneath the ice onto the surface to speed up freezing. 📊 Key Highlights: - We collected nearly 100 ice cores to measure salinity, density, temperature, and thickness. - Remote monitoring equipment was installed to track the thickened ice and a reference ice site until it fully melted by June 19th. - This one-of-a-kind dataset, along with detailed data-gathering methods, will be openly shared with the scientific community in an upcoming publication. This is just the first step in validating the effectiveness of Arctic Ice Thickening to preserve natural habitats and maintain sea ice as a crucial reflective surface. We’re already planning our next winter project, building on the insights from this field test to further validate the potential impact and scalability of our innovative approach. 📄 Click on the link below to access the full Research Summary Report : https://lnkd.in/e7TRnmTW Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions! #ClimateAction #ArcticReflections #SeaIceRestoration #GlobalWarming #OceanDecade #OceanVisions #Innovation #Sustainability #Research
