Voorbeelden van dergelijke dual-use technologieën zijn geluidsarme drones en geavanceerde datatransmissie via LiFi (draadloos internet via licht). Als octrooigemachtigde met ervaring in de defensiesector, zie ik de lancering van dit Security Fund (SecFund) als een mooie kans voor innovatieve bedrijven die werken aan baanbrekende dual-use technologieën. Het aantrekken van traditionele financiering is vaak lastig voor deze bedrijven, maar met dit nieuwe fonds kunnen bedrijven met een sterke innovatiekracht de financiële steun krijgen die ze nodig hebben om te groeien. Last week, our colleagues Nick Schopman and Jerre Edens attended BioTechX, a leading global conference focused on AI, data science, and digital innovation in drug discovery, precision medicine, and pharmaceutical development. Nick and Jerre connected with several innovative companies, highlighting the growing role of AI in shaping the future of medicine development. There was also significant attention on data optimization within the pharmaceutical sector, particularly in drug discovery and target development. Basel, as a key hub for the pharma industry, provided the ideal setting for this conference. On Friday 13 September, I attended the round table organized by the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP) to discuss its strategic plan for the coming years. Various IP-experts from the Netherlands were invited by to join this meeting. During the meeting we discussed, among others, what changes may be expected in the coming years. After exchanging ideas we ended the afternoon with a nice Friday-afternoon drink.    It was a pleasure to be involved in this discussion. It concerns one of my favorite topics; trademark- and design protection, which touches my next-favorite topic; the why and how of leveraging such intangible assets (registered through the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP), the EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office, Octrooicentrum Nederland, onderdeel van Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland. etc.).   Having a complete IP portfolio and a solid IP strategy with solid contracts makes entrepreneurs benefit from the investments made in obtaining IP and trade secrets. Always a pleasure to discuss this further!    Arnold & Siedsma assists its clients in the establishment, commercialization and enforcement of IP rights.
