Avantium and Plastipak have signed a conditional offtake agreement for the use of Avantium’s 100% plant-based, recyclable polymer PEF in beverage and food packaging in the United States! 🌱🥤 Now that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently approved Avantium’s PEF for food contact applications, this is excellent news for consumers to use and enjoy in the United States. Plastipak, a global leader in high-quality, rigid plastic containers, will leverage PEF’s superior barrier properties, higher mechanical strength, and lower processing temperatures to enhance the sustainability and performance of their packaging solutions. We are pleased to announce that Avantium has been awarded a €3.5 million grant from the EU Horizon Europe program for our participation in the ICONIC research and development program. The ICONIC program aims to convert CO2 into formic acid, a key ingredient for sustainable protein production. This grant will be paid out over four years, starting in January 2025. At Avantium, we are known for our innovative technologies that transform biomass and CO2 into valuable materials. Our Volta Technology platform uses electrochemistry to convert CO2 into essential chemical building blocks. Through the ICONIC project, we will scale up our electrochemical cell to convert CO2 from refinery gases into formic acid. This formic acid will then be used to produce high-value products such as proteins for animal feed and alternatives to palm oil. We are excited to contribute to a sustainable future and look forward to the advancements this project will bring!
