BDT20 with ECB diaphragm seal in full wetted parts in Titanium. For an end user in the oil & gas industry (FPSO), we recently supplied a very nice solution with a full stainless steel pressure gauge (BDT20) with overpressure protector (BDT49) and an ECB diaphragm seal with full wetted parts in Titanium. The expertise in this diaphragm seal design is in the welding of the upper and lower part. Welding of titanium materials is extremely delicate and complex due to several unique challenges associated with the Titanium material: - High Reactivity: Titanium is highly reactive at elevated temperatures. - Low Thermal Conductivity: Titanium’s poor thermal conductivity causes heat to concentrate in the weld area, increasing the risk of overheating, warping, and residual stress in welded joints. - Oxidation: At high temperatures, titanium forms an oxide layer that can interfere with the welding process. - Specialized Techniques and Equipment: Welding titanium often requires advanced techniques like Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or TIG) and specialized equipment to control heat input and prevent contamination. These factors make welding Titanium a demanding process that requires precision, skill, and careful preparation to achieve high-quality welds. For this Badotherm works together with leading specialists in this field. Look how nicely the seam weld is done, which also has been extensively NDE tested. The versatility of titanium material in Diaphragm Seal Systems For several customers, industries and applications, we frequently supply pressure instruments and accessories in titanium material. Of course, almost always related to our diaphragm seal systems. For these instruments, we often work with titanium Grade 2 material for the body material and Grade 1 for the thin diaphragm. Both these grades are commercially known as pure titanium. The renowned characteristics of titanium is its excellent balance of strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance. One of our recent supplies is a series diaphragm seal systems made with a BDT20-S full stainless steel, solid front pressure gauge with US-T type diaphragm seal that was executed in full wetted parts in Titanium material. This very nice configuration had following main specifics: A solid front safety pattern gauges BDT20-S 100mm with full 316SS wetted parts including the casing. The pressure gauge is protected by means of an special internal pulsation dampener, called BDT46, to reduce pressure pulsations to an absolute minimum, ensuring a very long lifetime of these instruments. The diaphragm seal system consists of the US-T diaphragm seal with a threaded process connection in the lower part. This US type functions as a enlarger to convert the threaded connection towards a larger diaphragm in the upper part. Both upper and lower part consist of titanium grade 2 material, whilst the diaphragm consists of titanium grade 1, which has better formability for the convolution of the diaphragm. Look specifically at the thread in the lower part, that is machined from solid bar material!! 😍 Such instruments in this materials are frequently used in off-shore applications. As such, we can supply these fully compliant to NORSOK requirements, in case requested. Designed for the harshest conditions. A nice DP Level measurement with a Yokogawa pressure transmitter type EJX110A, to affront the harshest of conditions. This is a heavy-duty execution of the USL-F HP consists of a 2” class 900-1500 RJF process connection according the ASME B16.5. This is an integrated 2-piece diaphragm seal type that ensures a smaller process connection is possible, whilst keeping the largest size diaphragm possible to facilitate a small span to be measured. The so-called lower part functions as an adaptor piece between seal part and process connection. The USL diaphragm seal type is selected to ensure a 81mm diaphragm diameter to be able to measure accurately and robustly a small span of in this case 100 mbar. The 316L stainless steel diaphragm is coated with a layer of 25-micron 24crt gold to protect the measurement against hydrogen permeation. The lower part is made of special material being ASTM A350 LF2 (K03011). Equipped with 10 meter of double shielded stainless steel capillary armor and supplied with special heavy duty bolting in Super Duplex F53. And in this case, standard filling fluid BSO-22 😊 Together with our Danish partner Insatech we serviced this complete project with high quality diaphragm seal systems during the start-up. The project we supplied originally with a large variety of special diaphragm designs (a.o. FSO-USL) in several exotic materials such as Duplex F51, SuperDuplex F53, Hastelloy C276 with and without gold platings. Well done to all!
