From a lineair to a circular product and a 50% lower cost price. We made a redesign of a product with over 1.5 million units produced. Want to know how?👇🏼 Voedingscentrum created "Eetmaatje" which helps people measure portions and cut down on food waste. This very handy measuring cup has been around for years but it was time for an upgrade. Here's how we made it happen: • Replacing virgin PP for a fully recyclable biobased PP made from discarded frying oil • Optimising stability so it won't tip over by making many prototypes and testing them • Better readability of the measurements by using laser engraving • Optimising the geometry for production (injection molding) for faster production and longer mold life • Working with one of the best Dutch manufacturers for food safe products The development was completed in just a few months So we made it more sustainable, user-friendly and for 50% of the original cost price. ♻️ Are "Recycled" Products Truly Recycled? Ever wondered about the journey of a recycled plastic bottle? With plastic production soaring to 390.7 million metric tonnes annually, addressing plastic waste is more urgent than ever. But how can we be sure the "recycled" products we buy are truly recycled? ♻️🗑️ Transforming Trash In our blog, we explore how plastic waste is transformed into new products through mechanical and chemical recycling processes. We delve into the different types of plastic waste: in-process waste from production, post-industrial waste generated after manufacturing, everyday items discarded by consumers, and ocean plastics, which pose unique challenges. Additionally, we highlight inspiring examples of companies innovating with recycled plastics. 🌱 Sustainable practices At Better Future Factory, we advocate for clear legislation and transparent communication. Let’s support genuine sustainability practices by choosing products made from recycled materials. For the Startup in Residence program by Gemeente Den Haag, Better Future Factory developed a modular parklet system tailored to residents' needs and new uses for parking spots. 🚧 The Challenge Dutch streets, often designed before cars became common, struggle with parked cars, charging poles, waste containers, and more. Streets must also become climate adaptive, and residents should feel responsible for their streets. 🔧 Flexible Use Creative sessions with residents led to a parklet configured as a mini-park with plants, a garden workbench, water tank, mini library, and benches. Inspired by Studio Klinkenberg's design, the parklet can be configured in various ways using five “puzzle pieces. ♻️ Circular Materials The parklet is made from sustainable materials: recycled artificial grass for decking, planters from 100% recycled plastic, and European thermo wood (so no paint is needed) for the wooden elements, providing durability with a low environmental footprint. The Cinderella Effect 📈 Boosting Sales In this blogpost, we discuss how reducing waste is crucial in today’s world. The Cinderella effect shows how transforming old products into new, functional items can significantly increase demand. 📊 Consumers Pay More! A study by Kamleitner, Thürridl, and Martin shows how "Identity Salience" impacts consumer demand. Participants were willing to pay up to 26% more for repurposed products, driven by the emotional connection and brand recognition of the original item. 🛠 Our Approach At Better Future Factory, we embrace this effect by using visual storytelling, maintaining original waste colors, and providing a product passport detailing material origins. I firmly believe that recognition is key to building a positive culture and keeping teams engaged. I recall that the main reason I left Accenture was not the salary or the job itself but the lack of appreciation. Recognition is the driving force behind SHV Energy ‘s Innovation Award, which is given in a ceremony attended by C-Level executives from all countries. This year's trophy, beautifully crafted by Better Future Factory , has a "B" shape that symbolises "Beyond," our innovation strategy. The integration of sustainable materials further enhances its beauty—a true masterpiece. Congrats to all teams involved in the winning projects Júlio Cardoso Rubens Ramos Marcelo Abrantes Pinheiro Flávio Baltensberger (冯博思) Gloria Castro Rodrigo Ourique Marcus Ghedini Duncan Osborne Marc van Huet Mark Peard Brianne Mulvihill Alan McInerney Oliver Kenny Paul Sheehan , Eduardo Martins , Elaine Soares (Nani) , Estevão Paiva , Henrique Marques Lopes I hope you proudly display this trophy on your shelves and remember you made the difference.

Gefeliciteerd! “Winnen was nooit mijn insteek. De winst zit ‘m voor mij al in de data die je krijgt uit de voedselmonitor,” reageert Lennard Burggraaf , vegan chef van Stadion Feijenoord. We are thrilled to announce 🎉 the continued partnership with Schneider Electric in crafting the Sustainability Impact awards for yet another year with Upstream Trophies. This year's awards feature three distinct trophies 🏆 , unified as a family yet each integrating the iconic Sustainable Impact logo 🍂 . Drawing inspiration from the architectural marvel of the first skyscrapers 🏙️, these trophies are a homage to the enduring legacy of Schneider Electric. Dating back to the Industrial Revolution, Schneider's roots in steel symbolize the core of high rises in iconic cities like New York 🗽, Paris 🇫🇷, and beyond. Incorporating elements of Art Deco, the design embodies skyscraper shapes 🌆, celebrating the innovative spirit of Schneider Electric. What makes these trophies even more special is their sustainable aspect ♻️: they are made from Schneider Electric’s own plastic waste, derived from products like socket covers and other electronic components. A testament to sustainability and innovation. Congratulations to all the winners worldwide 🌍! Thank you Nicolas Bartmann, Liz Bardetti, Winny Tang, Sarath Raghunath for working again with us this year. Your achievements fuel our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future. #SchneiderElectric #Sustainability #Innovation #Sustainabilityimpact
