Let’s meet Hanna! Hanna Hanzha is working for CLS Services, in her role as Senior Associate Scientist at the Team of Bacterial Vaccines at Janssen. You might recognize her as the speaker on behalf of CLS Services at the BCF Career Event in 2023. Hanna: “That was my first time outside the Janssen company that I had to speak for such a large audience. I appreciate the opportunities CLS gives me. I am very happy working for CLS and do not have the urge to change.”   How did you get to know CLS Services? “I applied for a vacancy on CLS’ website almost 6 years ago. I was living in Ukraine and determined to get a job in vaccine development. After my application I had an online interview with CLS. We had a good conversation and CLS arranged several interviews with people at Janssen. Within one month I received an offer. CLS was taking care of my visa and due to the holiday season two months after that, I started working at Janssen. And I still am.”   Why CLS? “A lot of expat contractors complain about their recruitment companies: the lack of personal interest, the bad employment terms as paying late, waiting days, 70% payment by illness, 25 holidays etc., the long run before receiving answers and the difficulty in constantly talking to different people on any questions you have. At CLS you don’t have anything like that. They are supportive in everything that is needed. With their rather small team they act quickly, fair and are flexible. Just taking good care of their employees.”   What does secondment mean for you in practice? “CLS takes care of everything. As they combine recruitment and HR in one organization, I only have one number to dial. I can reach them anytime and they try to arrange things as quickly as possible. I really value CLS; they are fast responders and very supportive to any challenge I face in life. In almost 20 years changes have occurred, obviously. On April 1st 2005 René Kemps and Jan Paul Favier decided to start CLS Services. Large companies had a (corporate) R&D department in the Netherlands, but most of these departments have been closed, splitted or moved to other countries now. Yes, challenging times in the chemistry and life sciences sector, at least for R&D departments. Lifetime employment was a sort of life goal, lifetime loyalty to the organisation you work for was very common. People now like to stick to their personal life goals, are easily willing to change jobs if they are into that job or even move if needed. This is all about long-term career planning and happiness. Meet Claudia “Helping people to take the next step in their career is what drives me every day. We need to see the real you to make the right match.” Claudia Erwich-Faaij has been working for CLS Services since 2009 and is still very happy to be part of the team. Claudia Erwich-Faaij: “While completing my Ph.D. research I started working for CLS in secondment. Unfortunately, the organization I was working for decided to move my department abroad while I was on maternity leave, so my job ended there. CLS decided to extend my employment contract so I had more time to search for another position after I returned. I did a short-term project, spent time on my Ph.D. and was a young mother. That was quite challenging. When the project ended, I asked Jan Paul and René if I could help out in the CLS team. I joined …and stayed. I love talking to people, take a deep dive in what they are looking for. And even if they do not know yet, I really like to help them get to the next chapter. Sometimes things do not work out as employees wish. That is life. Then we have a chat, we will coach them or give them the opportunity to improve certain skills. We take care of our people. My experience taught me how hard it is to complete your Ph.D. while working full time. I can regularly give some advice to our employees as well.
