Congratulations to Eindhoven University of Technology for achieving their highest number of new students ever this year! As this article we translated notes, this student growth is in line with the aim of substantially increasing the number of #semiconductor students and is crucial to the long-term success of the #Netherlands and the #Brainport region in particular.

As #energy demands continue to rise, many regions, including the #Brainport region, are facing significant grid congestion challenges. These issues hinder the efficient use and storage of #renewableenergy, putting strain on the local electricity network. With ambitious #sustainability goals in place, there is an urgent need for innovative solutions to optimize energy management and ensure a stable grid. A promising answer to these pressing issues is the GENIUS project (Grid Efficiency and Network Integration for Universal Sustainability) and we're pleased to have proofread this overview on behalf of Eindhoven Engine!

Did you know that #languagedevelopment begins before babies can even talk? Inspired by a viral video of a toddler ‘speaking’ in a Liverpool accent, Joshua Grindrod uses our latest #blog post to examine how #bilingualism and early language exposure shape a child’s lifelong accent and #language skills – sometimes even influencing how they cry.

As part of #Diversity Week and #ComingOut Day, Eindhoven University of Technology secretary Eric van der Geer-Rutten-Rijswijk is eager to support anyone struggling with their orientation. In this article we translated, he shares his coming out story and emphasizes the importance of choosing your moment. “Share it when it feels right for you, whether you come out now or not. Follow your path, be yourself, and know that we accept you as you are.”

Semiconductors are often considered to have one of the most complex fabrication processes in the world, while global events such as #COVID19 have also highlighted issues in their supply chain. Given the increased recognition of the importance of #semiconductors, the AISSI project brought together Bosch Sensortec GmbH, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Nexperia, Bosch, SYSTEMA and D-SIMLAB Technologies to optimise the throughput of semiconductor wafer fabs and the predictability of semiconductor supply chains. This was achieved using used digital twins, #AI agents and a platform for standardised communication. For the full story, take a look at this results leaflet we wrote.

In a world where transparency regarding the #sustainability of products is becoming more and more important, reliable and robust sustainability standards are essential. The current industrial biobased systems of #Europe have a plethora of applicable sustainability certification schemes and labels (CSLs) to enable the #traceability of sustainability impact along the biobased value chains and trade. The European Commission needs to evaluate the effectiveness, robustness and completeness of these CSLs, which is why the Horizon Europe project SUSTCERT4BIOBASED is developing a tool called the BIOBASEDCERT Monitoring System (BMS). Not an easy task, as coordinator Iris Vural Gursel explains to Wageningen Food & Biobased Research.

Rudi Bekkers’ field of #standardization and #intellectualproperty is hot and happening, but that wasn’t the case when he began his academic career. He has made it his mission to convey the importance of technical standards to all Eindhoven University of Technology students. He does so with such energy, interactivity and practical insights that he was named TU/e’s Best Bachelor Teacher 2024. Take a look at this interview with him that we had the pleasure of translating!

A self-driving car remotely controlled by an attacker. Game controllers that let you bypass paying for games. People replicating machines from big tech companies. These are all examples where the #hardware was not secure enough, resulting in people misusing it. To prevent such errors, we need to check and secure #cryptography in hardware – preferably before it has even been made. This is what TNO is working on and sharing as part of #Cybersecurity Month.
