Exciting News! The initial draft of the 2025 UNESCO cultural statistics framework incorporates a value-based approach (#VBA). VBA is a multidisciplinary research approach rooted in the belief that values drive the pursuit of societal goals, leading to actions to achieve those goals. We are honoured that UNESCO experts acknowledge the contribution of the VBA methodology to the Theory of Value debate! On another note, UNESCO has initiated consultations on the new UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics. The framework aims to assess the impact of culture on society and includes major innovations. UNESCO seeks to enhance the understanding of cultural statistics by using international experiences, classification systems, and feedback from cultural and creative stakeholders. Your contribution to this initiative is invaluable and we encourage you to share your insights until August 15. For more information, please visit https://lnkd.in/dijMpmSS. The pandemic has led to significant changes in financing and participatory practices, sparking a fascinating exploration of their evolution during this time. Do not forget to check out this working paper as a part of GLAMMONS "Challange for GLAMs: mapping the field across Europe before and after the pandemic" #GLAMMONS #HorizonEurope #Finance #ParticipatoryPractices #PandemicTransformation
Read more about "Pandemic Driven Shifts of Glams finances and Participatory Practices: Digital policy and management trends in Europe" by Stelios Lekakis (MAZOMOS Landscape and Heritage Consultants) and Mina Dragouni (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences) https://lnkd.in/dSz8PuWF As digital technologies and online tools have become omnipresent in our everyday life, it is not surprising that they have found their way into cultural organisations missioned to preserve our cultural heritage, such as Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAMs). This document explores digital policy and digital management trends in European GLAMs with the view to increase our understanding of how digital work and tools have been embedded in the work of memory institutions. But also, to identify any pandemic-driven shifts that can inform future challenges and opportunities for the sector, particularly in relation to participatory practices and financial resilience. This working paper is part of the GLAMMONS WP1 "Challenges for the GLAMs: mapping the field across Europe before and after the pandemic" / Deliverable 1.5: "Pandemic-driven shifts of GLAMs finances and participatory practices: Digital policy and management trends in Europe". #HorizonEurope #researchimpact #glammons NOVA ISKRA ; European Creative Hubs Network; Burgundy School of Business - BSB ; CREARE Social; Technische Universität Berlin; Inpolis Urbanism GmbH;

Our colleague, Lyudmila Petrova, Ph.D., and Marilena Vecco from Burgundy School of Business - BSB, presented a section of their research from the GLAMMONS project titled "What is cultural in the cultural commons?" during the 17th International Conference on Arts and Cultural Management (AIMAC Lisbon 2024). The study, based on a systematic literature review, delves into the cultural and social dimensions of cultural goods functioning as commons. Stay tuned to find out more! #GLAMMONS #culturalgoods #commons #HorizonEU #culturalmanagement #culturaleconomics

Seize this opportunity for personal and professional growth! With GLAMMONS, we continue our series of Value-Based Workshops. You can apply with qualitative or quantitative papers using the Value-Based approach until next Monday, 15 July. We are committed to fostering a diverse community and welcome all participants, regardless of their background, who share an interest in the arts and culture sector. For more information, please get in touch with vba.book2022@gmail.com #VBA #valuebasedapproach #HorizonEurope #GLAMs #GLAMMONS
CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: The Value-based Workshop (26-28 September 2024, Wolfson College Cambridge, UK) Co-organised by CREARE Social, #Glammons partners (Arjo Klamer and Lyudmila Petrova). After the Rotterdam and Venice meetings, the Value-based Workshop will celebrate the completion of an edited volume that resulted from the previous gatherings and set work ground for the next project. In the last edition, scholars and practitioners in the fields of arts and culture, economics, management, entrepreneurship, education, and policy came together to discuss the values of culture through four main lenses: common practices in cities, a new approach to cultural policy, evaluation of the impact of culture, and the humane economy. For the next edition, we aim to further these four themes by pursuing a markedly empirical approach. We welcome qualitative and quantitative papers that apply or adapt the value-based approach to an empirical case. Methods may include case studies, comparative studies, experiments, cross-sections or longitudinal studies. A limited number of conceptual papers on the topics related to the value-based approach are also invited. The purpose of this workshop is to foster a new editorial venture, like a journal special issue or an edited volume. We welcome participants from the disciplines of social sciences and humanities with an interest in the arts and culture sectors. Participants may also be unfamiliar with the value-based approach as long as they are willing to engage with this framework. Deadline to apply 15 July 2024. Each abstract should include: • Title of the proposed article • Authors’ information, • Abstract text of 500 words • Max. 5 keywords (or concepts that will be included in the glossary of the book) • Bibliographical references For more information: vba.book2022@gmail.com #valuebasedapproach #management #art #commonpractice Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences; Burgundy School of Business - BSB; Inpolis Urbanism GmbH; MAZOMOS Landscape and Heritage Consultants; European Creative Hubs Network; Technische Universität Berlin; NOVA ISKRA

Our research for GLAMMONS focused on the cultural commons and how they harmonize economic, social, and cultural values. We explored the Vrij Paleis, a vibrant creative community in Amsterdam, and found inspiring qualities that epitomize their artistic and organizational practices. The non-hierarchical model at Vrij Paleis supports artistic diversity and offers a welcoming environment for artists and artisans of all skill levels. Explore the '#newcommons' theory and commoning practices for #GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) in the working paper by Vasilis Avdikos, Martha Michailidou, Mina Dragouni, and Dimitris Pettas. #HorizonEU #OpenScience #OpenAccess #ResearchImpactEU GLAMMONS
💡 A novel conceptual framework for studying GLAMs as commons. Vasilis Avdikos, Martha Michailidou, Mina Dragouni, and Dimitris Pettas (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences) develop and present, for the first time, a novel conceptual framework for studying GLAMs as #commons, adapted to fit with the idiosyncrasies of the sector and explore the ways relevant commoning practices could be developed towards ensuring GLAMs’ #sustainability and #resilience, while meeting broader societal needs. Read more about "Conceptualising GLAMs as commons": https://lnkd.in/dm93d8X5 In this report, V. Avdikos, M. Michailidou, M. Dragouni, and D. Pettas reflect on ‘new commons’ theory and elaborate on the ontology of memory institutions to develop a comprehensive conceptual framework for ‘commons-oriented’ GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums). In doing so, they propose an alternative mode for governing and managing cultural heritage against a backdrop of limited public funding and pressures for developing memory institutions into more inclusive, participatory, and ‘entrepreneurial’ organisations. Their theoretical analysis is grounded in the review of the extant literature, including both the ‘Ostromian’ and ‘Autonomist’ schools of thought, drawing particularly on the new commons (urban, digital, cultural/heritage commons) to inform their framework. The conceptual schema they present here is adapted to fit with the idiosyncrasies of the sector, describing the functioning of commoning practices in GLAMs. Such a framework is critical for navigating future research and devising workable solutions to address current challenges for memory institutions in Europe This working paper is part of the GLAMMONS WP1 "Challenges for the GLAMs: mapping the field across Europe before and after the pandemic" / Deliverable 1.6: " Conceptualising GLAMs as commons." #HorizonEU #OpenScience #OpenAccess #ResearchImpactEU CREARE Social; Burgundy School of Business - BSB; European Creative Hubs Network; MAZOMOS Landscape and Heritage Consultants; Inpolis Urbanism GmbH; Technische Universität Berlin; NOVA ISKRA

The JRC #SciArt Residency shattered the notion that collaboration between artists, scientists, and policymakers is challenging. The participants, team, and curators experienced a seamless co-creation, resulting in a profound impact. Our colleague Lyudmila Petrova, Ph.D., was deeply moved by the artistic creativity, scientific rigour, integrity, and societal relevance showcased at the recent "NaturArchy" exhibition at iMAL, Brussels. We believe this impactful collaboration will continue to drive the change we so much need! 🌍 Last week, the 8 partners of the GLAMMONS project convened in Athens at bios, exploring urban culture/European Creative Hubs Network for the 4th Consortium Meeting. Over the course of two days, they engaged in discussions regarding the project's progress and updates including topics such as best practices, financial management, co-curation practices, the impact of heritage on well-being, collaboration within the cultural sector, historical memory, trauma, and sense of belonging, and policy recommendations. As we wrap up the initial phase of the project and look towards the next steps, our discussions were enriched by the experiences shared by our partners with various case studies. Specifically, we had the privilege of hosting two members from the schwules museum in Berlin. They actively participated in the discussions and generously shared their personal experiences with the team. with Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Burgundy School of Business - BSB; Technische Universität Berlin; CREARE Social; Inpolis Urbanism GmbH; MAZOMOS Landscape and Heritage Consultants; NOVA ISKRA #horizonEU #GLAMMONS #EUresearch credit photo: Ivan Manojlovic

The art of #transformation through creative #collaborations. Stay tuned.... #valuebasedapproach #commons #HorizonEU
💡 This year our partner CREARE Social starts with a series of workshops on #valuebasedapproach to emerging commoning practices in the cross-section between arts, science, and policymaking. As part of GLAMMONS, they are exploring how the Joint Research Center SciArt residency changes the perspectives on social and nature pressing issues through bottom-up creative collaborations, including co-production and co-curation. The overarching aim of the collaboration between CREARE and the JRC SciArt residency is to provide input to the understanding and assessment of common practices that emerge around community-led cultural settings and understand: 1) What drives different groups to collaborate and co-create? 2) How does the collaboration change the practices of the different stakeholders? 3) How do science, arts, and policy converge to act towards common solutions? CREARE believes with this research they can contribute to deep and empirical-based knowledge about the transformations that creativity and community-led practices generate through bottom-up collaboration and decision-making processes. Since 2016, the JRC SciArt project has been encouraging scientific and social innovation by facilitating the co-production between scientists, artists, curators, policymakers, and citizens that shape solutions to urgent societal questions. In this context, Lyudmila Petrova, Ph.D. and Arjo Klamer met with the management team and the curatorial committee of the JRC SciArt in Brussels at iMAL, a venue for creative initiatives centered on the innovative and critical application of emerging technology.
