A recent AAAI study found that 76% of experts consider AGI unlikely without major breakthroughs. ➡️ Instead, 60% believe symbolic reasoning, a structured, logic-based approach, must play a larger role. The current generation of AI models struggles with long-term planning, continuous learning, and real-world understanding. ➡️ Despite these limitations, 70% of researchers oppose pausing AI development, but 82% agree AGI must be publicly controlled if it emerges. ➡️ I believe a pause-and-reflect moment before continuing the arms race to develop AGI would be good for humanity.
