In the framework of the implementation of the SMILES program- Social Mobilisation and Local Enterpreneurship Support, the staff of the Integration Association, together with a group of expert farmers and tourism entrepreneurs, participated in the activity organized in Junik, Kosovo. This event provided an excellent opportunity to promote local products and create new collaborations between farmers and entrepreneurs in the region and beyond. Farmers had the opportunity to present their local products , taking advantage of the new opportunities offered through this event, as well as creating contacts and connections with farmers and entrepreneurs from different regions. This platform helps them to expand in the market and create a path for a sustainable development . The Minister of Agriculture of Kosovo and the Mayor of the Municipality of Junik, as well as many donors, were also present at the event. During the meetings, the staff had the opportunity to talk with important local, regional and central actors on the specific challenges and needs of farmers and the opportunities to increase support for local Tropoja producers emphasizing the necessity of investments in the agricultural sector and rural development. Such events are important not only because they give participants the opportunity to promote their local products, but also because they provide a platform to create acquaintances and collaborations with farmers, producers and businesses interested in these quality products and establishing of new relationships and markets. 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞-𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐫𝐚𝐪 On this international day for the eradication of poverty, we highlight the urgent threat that climate change poses to livelihoods in Iraq. With temperatures rising seven times faster than the global average, communities are facing increased drought, flooding and desertification, which severely undermine economic resilience. Dorcas Iraq is actively working to enhance climate resilience through various projects that promote climate-smart agricultural practices. One effective solution we’ve introduced is 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐱𝐱, a device that collects and stores rainwater, enabling farmers to sustain their crops even in challenging conditions. 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 [𝐋𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐚] As tensions rise and violence escalates in the Middle East, countless people in Lebanon and Syria are affected from the ongoing conflict. In response, the Christian Emergency Relief Cluster (𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘫𝘬 𝘕𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘩𝘶𝘭𝘱𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳) launched an emergency campaign to provide critical support to those in need. Dorcas, Tearfund Nederland and ZOA have been working in the region for years. Together, we are delivering essential assistance to displaced people and victims of the crisis. Dorcas colleagues Pamela Hajal and Ferdinand Tuinstra had the honour of meeting His Excellency Mr Abdel Sattar Issa, Lebanon’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, at the Lebanese embassy in The Hague. Also present was Mr Antoine Nabih El-Kalaani, Honorary Consul of Lebanon to Amsterdam and the Province of Noord-Holland. Central to the meeting was to explore opportunities for collaboration in supporting IDPs in Lebanon.   Dorcas’ mission and ongoing activities in Lebanon were shared, along with the latest emergency campaign providing critical assistance to IDPs. Discussions were held on how the embassy can engage through their social media platforms, among others, to enhance support for Lebanon.   Dorcas remains committed to support with food assistance, shelter, basic necessities, hygiene items, and protection services to those affected in Lebanon.   #CollaborationForLebanon #HumanitarianAssistance #Dorcas 

'A call to donate for emergency assistance doesn’t need to be an invitation for outright hurtful communication'. I am aware that the conflict in the Middle East is a sensitive topic and I do respect that people have different opinions about it. Yet, I wasn't expecting the level of negative comments that we received in response to the Dorcas campaign for Lebanon. Vandaag hebben we als Dutch Relief Alliance een prettig kennismakingsgesprek gevoerd met Reinette Klever | Minister BHO, de nieuwe minister voor Buitenlandse Handel en Ontwikkelingshulp (onderdeel van het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken). Daarin hebben we (Hoai Tram NGUYEN, Reintje van Haeringen, Garance Reus-Deelder en Agnes Kroese) de Dutch Relief Alliance kunnen introduceren als een samenwerkingsverband van 14 Nederlandse noodhulporganisaties, dat al bijna tien jaar snel en efficiënt in actie komt bij humanitaire nood na een natuurramp of bij een gewapend conflict. Door nauw samen te werken zowel in Nederland als op de plekken waar de nood het hoogst is, hebben we zo, gesteund door de Nederlandse overheid, al vele levens kunnen redden en nood kunnen verlichten van mensen die ontredderd zijn door oorlogs- of natuurgeweld. Door samen te werken met lokale organisaties zijn we nog sneller bij de mensen die de hulp het hardst nodig hebben. Gezien de wereldwijde alsmaar toenemende humanitaire noden is de noodzaak van deze samenwerking met het ministerie alleen maar urgenter geworden. We zien er dan ook naar uit om deze gezamenlijke aanpak voort te zetten in de toekomst.

At Dorcas, we believe that partnering with the local community is the only way to create sustainable change. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 On the International Day of Older People, Dorcas published an evaluation of its Community Safety Net (CSN) approach in Albania, Egypt, Ethiopia, Moldova, Romania, Tanzania and Ukraine. A CSN mobilises different organisations in a community to provide a safe and supportive environment where older people can flourish. It also raises awareness about the issues older people face.   𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐒𝐍𝐬: ➡️ CSNs restore older people’s dignity through social, intergenerational, income-generating and spiritual activities. ➡️ They strengthen social cohesion and create valuable traditions. ➡️ Communities discover that they can do more than they originally realised to support older people to flourish.   Various practices improve the sustainability and impact of CSNs, such as actively involving participants, partnering with churches as natural allies in caring for older people and holding governments accountable. However, CSNs also encounter challenges, such as encouraging local ownership and balancing the positive and negative effects of providing material support to older people.    𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭? Dorcas’ evaluation report offers several recommendations. 📢 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 Tomorrow we commemorate the international day of older people. At Dorcas, we are committed to supporting older people in the countries where we work, and the involvement of the community is a key part of achieving this. Leila, Country Director of Dorcas Moldova, sees first-hand the challenges older people face in their daily lives. Leila: 'Our work is about the building of a network around older people. A community of neighbours, people from church, volunteers and, if possible, family members. We also work together with local authorities and businesses. They will support us, for example, by providing a social worker to give nutritional advice and health checks, or by participating in our Blue Bucket Campaign, where we distribute food parcels. There are many older people who are struggling to make ends meet and feel lonely. Thanks to the support we provide, they start to flourish again.’ 🌱     👉 Stay tuned.
