🌞 Summer holidays are the perfect time to explore vibrant destinations, and Lisbon stands out not just for its beauty but also for its #sustainability initiatives. 🌿 Did you know that during the 2008 economic crisis, Lisbon embarked on a journey towards becoming a greener, more liveable city? Fast forward a decade, and Lisbon's efforts were in 2020 recognised with the prestigious European #GreenCapital award, making it the first Southern European city to receive this honour! 🏆  Now, the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa is taking sustainability to the next level by incorporating #CircularEconomy principles into its #urbandevelopment strategy. Here are some key insights on how the city is achieving this:  1️⃣ Collaboration is key: Partnering with other cities can lead to larger, more innovative projects. Collaboration simplifies securing funding and fosters shared learning.   2️⃣ Policy alignment: Focus on projects that align with the city's existing policy agenda. This ensures smoother implementation and maximises circular impacts.   3️⃣ Expert management: Navigating (EU-funded) project applications and management requires significant time and expertise. Investing in training internal staff or hiring external experts can facilitate this.  4️⃣ Local engagement: Involving local partners boosts project effectiveness and secures long-term commitment and continuity.  5️⃣ Independent expertise: External experts can serve as "honest brokers" to demonstrate the necessity and benefits of the circular transition, helping to convince stakeholders of its value and impact.  Lisbon’s experience sets an inspiring example on how cities can successfully blend sustainability with economic growth. Exciting Developments at the Policy & Research EU Market Meeting! We are thrilled to share the outcomes of our stimulating two-day meeting where we explored the evolving Policy & Research landscape within the EU market. Our discussions were filled with reflections on our successes, future strategies, and the integration of innovative digital tools such as R Studio and Power BI. Additionally, we looked into the promising capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot. This summer, the EU is hosting some of the world’s largest sporting events, including the Euro 2024 championship ⚽ and the Olympic and Paralympic Games. 🏅 As athletes step into the spotlight, they face significant off-field challenges, from social media scrutiny and complex commercial relationships to the mental demands of competing at the highest level.
