One of our core research fields is the reinforcement of rubber by silica. Within this topic modified and functionalized polymers have gained increasing interest in recent years. To better understand the role of different reaction variables on the coupling efficiency Marcin Sęk performed an in-depth study including a broad DoE. Check this findings in the publication below! #ETE #Rubber #Reinforcement #SilicaCoupling #Polymermodification

Over ons
The chair of Elastomer Technology and Engineering (ETE) is part of the department of Mechanics of Solid, Surfaces and Systems (MS3) at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Its roots reach back to the early eighties, was established 2000 by Prof. Dr. J. Noordermeer and since 2013, Prof. Dr. Anke Blume has been appointed as head of the group. Currently, ETE consists of approximately 30 members including staff, Postdocs, Master, PhD and PDEng students of 14 different nationalities. The ETE research focuses on rubber material development with an emphasis on filler and tire tread technology, silica/silane filled natural rubber compounds, recycling and sustainability. One of the strengths of ETE is the wide cooperation with industrial partners, universities and research institutes all over the world. With its experience, broad network and knowledge the ETE group is established as one of the biggest rubber research groups worldwide.

One research area we as ETE - Elastomer Technology and Engineering are dedicated to is the field of bio-based, renewable and more sustainable ingredients for rubber applications. To be able to reach or even exceed the performance of established materials it is of vital importance to understand interactions and mechanisms involved with this new ingredients. As a result, their full potential can be revealed. Priyanka Sekar gave new insight into the use of HTC Lignin in recent publication "Horizons in Coupling of Sulfur-Bearing Silanes to Hydrothermally Treated Lignin toward Sustainable Development" https://lnkd.in/eysmD-Dx #ETE #rubber #HTClignin #sustainability

Your silica doesn't behave as it should? Teach it a lesson and treat it with plasma until it learns! The outcome might surprise you, as Sunkeun Kim could show in a recent publication "Plasma Polymerization of Precipitated Silica for Tire Application" https://lnkd.in/eTgRauPs #ETE #rubber #silica #plasmapolymerization
