In our cities, we are surrounded by billions of tons of materials. Is all of this tomorrow’s waste? 😰 It must not and should not be. There are smarter ways to handle Earth’s resources. One approach is called Urban Mining, and combined with Cradle to Cradle, it can boost the circular economy. ➡️ This is why Drees & Sommer invited journalists from publications across Europe to a press tour last Wednesday, highlighting two pioneer Urban Mining projects in Brussels. For me, it was an amazing privilege to organize this event, visit the impressive projects of Multi and ZIN, and meet a group of very curious and forward-looking people who took the chance to spread the news about the innovative approach. It was the first press trip outside of Germany we organized, my first time in Brussels and the first time I was away from my two-year-old for two days. And, like most first times, there was a lot of anxiety involved. But also a lot of satisfaction… 📣 to welcome journalists from eight European countries. Thank you for joining and sharing your perspectives, Nicol Dynes, Alexander Peer, Céline Coubray, Kristina Pezzei, Elisabeth K. Fürst, Charles Steiner, Karin Kronthaler, Jonas Tophoven, Michele Cassano, Nathan North, Jan Boháč, David Rogers. 💡 to connect in person with my colleagues based in Belgium and the Netherlands, Michael Moradiellos del Molino, Hein van Tuijl and Linus Grob, who are truly devoted to making circularity work in practice. 🙏 to work as a cross-border team with amazing colleagues – Svetlana Koman, Barbara Wiesneth, Marisa Rienesl, Birgit Kirchner, Giulia Stella, Tereza Prochazkova, Dunja Houelleu, Melanie Kloster. My personal thanks for making this possible. I hope this is just the beginning of a revolution and re-thinking in construction! 🏗️🔄🍃 Photo credit: Multi © Whitewood, ZIN © Philippe van Gelooven/Befimmo/Jaspers-Eyers Architects/51N4E/l'AUC
