We are excited to announce Mathew Halsall as our Associated Fellow! 🎉 Mat Halsall is currently the non-executive director and Global Business Strategist at Group Sopex, as well as being the program leader for Liverpool Business School Commodity Trading Hub. He is a member of the ICE Futures Europe, Authorisation, Rules and Conduct (ARC) committee. Mat has an extensive background in commodities trading, having held significant roles at prominent firms such as BTG Pactual in the United States, as the Head of Sugar Trading, and COFCO International in Switzerland, where he was the Global Head of Corn Trading. Gisteren vond de aftrap van het onderzoekstraject: 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨-𝘼𝙩𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙖 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙚 met de onderzoekers en betrokken partijen bij SmartPort plaats. De resultaten zullen inzicht geven in de verschillende import- en doorvoermogelijkheden van ammoniak voor de Rotterdamse haven. Ammoniak is een kansrijke #waterstofdrager waar in potentie veel van geïmporteerd kan worden vanuit bijvoorbeeld de Verenigde Staten. Rotterdam heeft nu de kans zich te ontwikkelen tot doorvoer en pricing center voor #ammoniak handel, maar er zijn nog een aantal onzekerheden die verder onderzocht moeten worden: ➡️ 𝗔𝗳𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲: het is nog onduidelijk wie deze duurzame stromen zal afnemen. Dit is echter wel cruciaal, want zonder afnemers heb je geen business case. ➡️ 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗻: welke opslag, conversie, transport etc. mogelijkheden zijn aanwezig in de haven? ➡️ 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: welke bestaande en noodzakelijke frameworks zijn nodig voor een succesvolle business case? ➡️ 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀: Hoe verhouden de mogelijke aanvoer ketens zich tot elkaar? ➡️ 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗮𝗹: Hoe kunnen we veilig en met minimale impact op de omgeving de ammonia keten opbouwen? ⚖️ Risk & Compliance III: Risk & Compliance in Business Today was all about understanding risk, compliance, and making strategic business decisions. Key takeaways: ◾ Acquisition of a Mining Asset was our case study, which involved analyzing financing, tax, and negotiation strategies, delivered by Dr. Ser-Keng Ang from SMU  ◾ During the day the students traveled to Abaxx Commodity Futures Exchange and Clearinghouse where Nancy S. and Shanmei Lim discussed the next generation Commodities Exchange.     The day ended with drinks at LeVeL33 Pte Ltd with a stunning view to reflect on key learnings. #RiskManagement #BusinessCompliance #Leadership #Strategy
