What an evening, what a setting, what an audience! Yesterday we celebrated the #EuropeanHeritageAwards at the spectacular Romanian Athenaeum. We announced live the 5 Grand Prix laureates and the Public Choice Award 2024 🥁 The Ceremony was co-hosted by European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Iliana Ivanova, & our Executive President, Hermann Parzinger. Our Secretary General, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, was Master of Ceremonies. The commendable Grand Prix recipients are: 🔺 Citizens’ Rehabilitation of the Tsiskarauli Tower 🇬🇪 🔺 Traditional Farm Buildings Scheme 🇮🇪 🔺 Saxon Church in Alma Vii 🇷🇴 🔺 Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities 🇭🇷 🔺 Ignacy Historic Mine, Rybnik 🇵🇱 And the top winner of this year was… Saxon Church in Alma Vii 🏆 It received not only a #GrandPrix but also the #PublicChoiceAward 2024! The Ceremony was held in the presence of distinguished high-level representatives. The President of Romania, H.E. Klaus Iohannis, sent a message to the Ceremony delivered by Sergiu Nistor, Presidential Adviser 💬 “The #EuropeanHeritageAwards are an encouragement for authorities to place our cultural treasures at the heart of development visions & to engage even more strongly in promoting it as as an unparalleled asset of competitiveness” It is an honour to hold the #EuropeanHeritageSummit under the high patronage of the President of Romania & in partnership with the Romanian authorities. Raluca Turcan, Minister of Culture, and Nicușor Dan, Mayor of Bucharest, also congratulated the winners. The Awards would not be possible without the support of the European Commission. We couldn’t have asked for a better #EuropeanHeritageSummit 2024 in Bucharest, Romania 🇷🇴 👏 ! We wrapped up the Summit with a closing reception at La Mița Bicilista 🪩 It has been an absolute pleasure to connect, share (and dance!) with all of you one year more. From best practices in preservation and restoration to digital transformation, climate action, and social inclusion. 👏 What a day! Yesterday, we gathered in Bucharest & online for the 2nd #HubForum. With over 400 participants in the National Museum of Art of Romania and online, we explored how #heritage can advance and benefit from the #DigitalTransformation ⚙️🏛️ The forum was split in two parts, addressing two key issues: establishing ethical standards in #AI and ensuring an environmentally sustainable digital transition. 🔹 Conversation 1 spotlighted the importance of acknowledging AI as a public good, while underlining the need for a strong advocacy framework. It also highlighted the role of the cultural sector in identifying ethical questions in AI. The speakers also called for support for heritage professionals to work with AI critically. 🔹 Conversation 2 underscored how the green, digital, and social transitions go hand in hand. There was a consensus on the need for more ambition and action in climate efforts within the sector. Throughout this process, knowledge sharing, transparency, and youth involvement are key! 📢 The Forum concluded with the launch of a Call to Action, outlining 5 key priorities to promote a socially and environmentally responsible #digital transition in #CulturalHeritage - of special importance with the newly elected EU Institutions  🇪🇺 The Call will be available soon on our website. In a strong 📹 message of support to the Hub, Sabine Verheyen, Vice-President of the European Parliament recognised the crucial role heritage plays in the digital world, promoting core #EU values and providing authenticity, trust and empathy: “Today’s discussions & outcomes will help shape Europe’s digital future.” Did you join the event? Yesterday we gathered in the National Museum of Art of Romania for the European Heritage #PolicyAgora to explore the topic of quality principles in #heritage conservation 🏛️ 💬 Over two panels, we discussed emerging needs in #CulturalHeritage & outlined current policy priorities, & the role #heritage plays in these legislative priorities - such as #ClimateAction. In a keynote address Riin alatalu, International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Vice-President stated 💬 "We live in a time of statements, charters & principles. The energy we put into drafting these must be matched by advocacy, as decision-makers responsible for #heritage are not always heritage professionals.” 🔺 Our first panel highlighted the need to increase access to funding, reinforce education and training in the public sector and civil society, and increase collaboration between civil society and public authorities to place heritage at the heart of all public policies. 🔺 Our second panel expressed how quality for heritage must be leveraged from existing projects for future protection, called for a people & process-centred approach, and agreed on the need to include the voices, passion and concerns of youth. Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra, and Ştefan Bâlici, President of the Ordinul Arhitecților din România, gave closing remarks. 👋 Hello from the #EuropeanHeritageSummit 2024 in Bucharest 🇷🇴 Yesterday, events kicked off with the Excellence Day & concluded with a special welcome reception hosted by the Mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan.   During the Excellence Day, each of the 26 winners of the #EuropeanHeritageAwards 2024 presented their projects & shared key learnings. It was a pleasure to have the very best heritage practices from across Europe in one room. “These projects didn’t just protect cultural heritage; they also involved local communities, reached new audiences, & showed how heritage can improve social well-being & support sustainable development”, stated Jacek Purchla, Chair of the Jury. The #EuropeanHeritageAwards are made possible with the valuable support of the European Commission. Judith Videcoq, Head of Unit of #CreativeEurope, highlighted 💬 “Your examples of excellence play an important role in the green transition, raising awareness & finding innovative ways to tackle environmental challenges. They reflect the strong economic impact of heritage, fostering tourism & creating jobs. They also enhance social inclusion, opening spaces for intercultural dialogue & engaging local communities." Today, 7 October, we will celebrate the winners in grand style during the Awards Ceremony 🏆 We are honoured to co-host this significant event with Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth 🇪🇺 The Ceremony will be held at the magnificent Romanian Athenaeum, recently awarded a European Heritage Label.
