Big news from the recent HL7 Connectathon in Atlanta! 🔥 For years, organizations have faced major challenges in maintaining data consistency and compatibility across systems that use different FHIR versions. As new versions like R5 introduce changes and enhancements that aren’t backward compatible with older versions like STU3 or R4, organizations have struggled with gaps in data or having to maintain complex custom workarounds as a result. But the solution is not far off! During the latest HL7 Connectathon, the design of cross-version extensions was completed after more than two years of discussions 🎉 This long-awaited solution will allow you to express updates from newer versions of FHIR into older ones (e.g., R5 elements in R4, or R4 elements in STU3), ensuring better interoperability across versions. These extensions are to be published in the coming quarter if all goes well. A shout out to Grahame Grieve and Gino Canessa for all their work on this! 👏 #FHIR #HL7 #Interoperability
