Building a FHIR Implementation Guide is an iterative process. Mostly, because some things are better to get right from the start 👇 In his new article Ward Weistra helps you choose the right canonical URL for your specification in four simple steps.
Many people in my network ask me 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙖 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙐𝙍𝙇 for their FHIR specification. In my opinion this is a very valid question, because it may save you a lot of trouble if you make the right decisions at the beginning. There are the 4️⃣ things to consider when choosing a canonical base URL. ✓ Choose a domain name that is under your control. ✓ Choose a part of your domain that is not yet being used for anything else ✓ Choose whether to use http or https ✓ Leave room for future upcoming specifications If you are looking for an easy way to actually make all your URLs resolve in a regular browser, check out Simplifier's resolve URL at simplifier.net/resolve. With a simple script hosted on the domain you've chosen as base URL, you can forward any browser via Simplifier to a nice view of the resource. ===== 💡 Find this Interesting? AI is already transforming our everyday lives, so why shouldn’t it do the same for our health? In the second installment of our new FHIR TL;DW series—where René Spronk delivers bite-sized summaries of key DevDays presentations—René recaps a panel discussion featuring four empowered patients (Hugo Campos, Grace Cordovano, PhD, BCPA, Dave deBronkart & Chethan Sarabu, MD). The panelists share insights on a number of ways patients are already using AI to manage their health and make more informed health decisions. They also touch on some of the barriers that are still hindering patient empowerment. Watch René’s recap here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eRH4ux7F #HL7 #FHIR #FHIRDevDays #AI

Big news from the recent HL7 Connectathon in Atlanta! 🔥 For years, organizations have faced major challenges in maintaining data consistency and compatibility across systems that use different FHIR versions. As new versions like R5 introduce changes and enhancements that aren’t backward compatible with older versions like STU3 or R4, organizations have struggled with gaps in data or having to maintain complex custom workarounds as a result. But the solution is not far off! During the latest HL7 Connectathon, the design of cross-version extensions was completed after more than two years of discussions 🎉 This long-awaited solution will allow you to express updates from newer versions of FHIR into older ones (e.g., R5 elements in R4, or R4 elements in STU3), ensuring better interoperability across versions. These extensions are to be published in the coming quarter if all goes well. A shout out to Grahame Grieve and Gino Canessa for all their work on this! 👏 #FHIR #HL7 #Interoperability
