Over ons
Fokkema & Partners is often asked to describe the firm's chief characteristics. Just naming a single style doesn't serve to answer this question, since the projects vary so widely. Still, since the start of the firm in 1995 all projects have had one thing in common: a drive for quality that exceeds our clients' expectations. It's our ambition to get the most out of a design question on our clients' behalf a thorough process that starts in understanding client needs through carefully and methodically trying to come to the core of the matter. We encourage our clients to come up with considerations and critical questions during the concept development phase. We feel that concept development really is one of the most important phases of the design process, a stage with a clear moment, when the true nature of the solution is determined. It is a phase when out of the box thinking, sharp analysis and down to earth practicality all come together in our effort to constantly raise the bar. During the next phase of design development we keep utilizing our creative capacities to find solutions which stay away from the obvious but still remain practical. At the end of the day we like to be inspired and have fun, but most importantly we want our client to be proud of our common result.

CRAFTING THE HOUTHOFF COMMUNITY : HOW TO MAKE A SIZABLE OFFICE PERSONAL?// After the renovation of Houthoff Rotterdam, the office at Amsterdam’s Zuidas has also been transformed. The project stands out due to the visual and functional diversity of the central community spaces. These are highlighted on each floor with a unique object, such as floor-to-ceiling, graphically styled wooden follies with niches for plants. This creates a warm and inviting environment within the substantial 12,500 m² building. The Houthoff community and connectivity are central to the design, offering spaces for relaxation, including a vibrant night bar. With refined materialisation, carefully considered details, and Houthoff's extensive art collection, the design exudes elegance and personality. All of this contributes to an office where the Houthoff community feels at home. The interiors of the Palace of Justice in Den Bosch are redesigned to efficiently accommodate multiple government services in the realm of justice. The characteristic end-of-century building complies again with contemporary user requirements and future standards for sustainable operations. The levels of orientation are up, thanks to a thorough reconfiguration of the program, while the offices of various judicial organisations offer a comfortable and flexible working environment. PRIVATE RESIDENCES: WHY DO SMALL DETAILS MATTER?// Read our architect Bart's article in our latest FOK magazine about 'the design of our homes in a fast-paced world'. Bart’s Corner column in short: From my point of view, the timeless concept of simplicity and understated elegance is proof of refined taste and sophistication. By focusing on natural light, using clean lines and minimalist design principles, you can create spaces that evoke a sense of balance and tranquillity. This approach to the design of our homes is particularly relevant in today's fast-paced and turbulent world where one seeks a place that will provide a sense of serenity and well-being. This, however, is not easily done. It requires thorough knowledge of spatial sequence, proportions and knowledge of textures and materiality. I am passionate about getting involved and creating a beautiful, harmonised, tailor-made result for our clients’ homes. I won't let go until a design is perfect. Because after all… every design is always about finding the right balance. A FESTIVE LAUNCH: HOW IS WZR LEARNING LAB PRIONEERING SOCIAL DURABILITY?// The new sustainable pavilion for the Werkzaak Rivierenland LeerLab in Geldermalsen was festively opened last Friday by chairman Anita Sørensen and director Elfriede Boer. It offers jobseekers an ideal environment for learning and development, set within a scenic learning garden. The pavilion is sustainably built with a wooden structure, flax ceiling tiles, furniture made from recycled PET bottles, and felt wall coverings from textile waste made in the WZR workshop. The building not only minimises its ecological footprint, but also contributes to social durability. Instead of commercial construction methods, the pavilion was realised as a learning project, where a diverse group of apprentices gained construction skills to increase their job opportunities. This project therefore provides a high 'social return': it is a building for people, built by people. Stay updated on this project through our social media channels! And read all about the opening on WZR's website: https://lnkd.in/einU_V3f Client: Werkzaak Rivierenland, Architect: Fokkema & Partners Architecten. VILA TASA: A PERSONAL FAMILY ABODE// This 17th-century canal house in Delft has been transformed into a welcoming residence where tradition meets innovation. It offers freedom through a sequence of intimate, monofunctional spaces, interconnected by a dynamic floor plan - ideal for a large family home. Over the centuries, the house changed. The stately facade remained, but the interior lost its monumental charm. We renovated the house into an inviting abode through targeted lighting design, a central light court, and careful choice of materials. Abstract lines and stucco profiles give the house a rich aesthetic, while custom-made cabinets inspired by stained glass combine historical references with modern elements. Sightlines connect the rooms, each with a unique character: ranging from comfort-oriented rooms to a music room for personal expression. Various artworks contribute to a personalised living experience in Vila Tasa. HOW TO CREATE BOTH PRIVACY AND CONNECTION?// Nestled within a lush enclave amidst the dunes and forests of Wassenaar, stands a villa (exterior architect: Hans van Egmond) whose interior has been redesigned with a focus on human scale and comfort. Clever design choices, such as adding an ensuite cabinet and a multifunctional bar area, ensure every family member has their own space while still feeling connected. Attention to detail and classic elements combined with modern accents create an elegant interior while connecting to the garden from every perspective in the house.
