  • Gapstars’ Scale Up Week 2025 | Back to the future 🇱🇰🎆 On the final day of the Gapstars’ Scale Up Week 2025 in Sri Lanka, our entire Gapstars family came together for an unforgettable celebration at Port City Colombo. Over 250 team members and partners celebrated with a big party to end the week in style. With the Scale Up Week, Gapstars’ main goals were twofold: cross-cultural innovation and team building. From navigating Colombo’s busy streets in tuk-tuks to exploring agile methodologies through LEGO workshops, the program brought together team members and partners to strengthen their collaborative bonds. 🚀 “This week has been about more than just scaling up”, said Hugo Hemmen, Gapstars CEO and co-founder. “It's about celebrating the lasting impact we’re creating together, the bonds we’ve built, and the future we’re crafting for tech innovation and synergy between the Netherlands, Portugal and Sri Lanka.” 🌎 According to Hemmen, the Gapstars venture in Sri Lanka has again grown exponentially in the past year. “We’re about breaking records, but this past year, Sri Lanka has really made a statement. The community and all the amazing brains of this country, that’s what brings it all together.” 🪐 With 15 international partners from a variety of different countries participating in this year’s edition of the week-long event, Country Director Stasz Zernicke’s observation rings true. “The vision for Gapstars becomes larger and larger each year.     Gapstars’ Scale Up Week 2025 | GapCon 🇱🇰🚀 Gapstars brought together its partnering companies and team members in Sri Lanka for GapCon 2025, featuring custom stands and a unique escape room. “GapCon embodies our core values: growth, impact, and community”, said Hugo Hemmen, co-founder and CEO of Gapstars. “From the escape room clues to our stands, everything represents how we work with clients and build sustainable teams across cultures and timezones.” 💫 The event highlighted two key initiatives: the Home of Hope NL for orphaned children in Alutwatta, and the Cholankande Youth Training Center (CYTC), supported by The Liv Foundation. The Liv Foundation provides essential support to underprivileged children. “I want to use my experience as a rehabilitation counselor meaningfully”, said Mayondi Maralande, Program Manager. “Seeing the children themselves, understanding how they’ve been disadvantaged, and witnessing the fruits of how we're helping them — that’s what drives me.” CYTC offers technical education in Computer Science, Motor Mechanics, Electrical Engineering, and soon Agriculture.   • Gapstars’ Scale Up Week 2025 | Workshop day 🇱🇰🧱 Our partners and dedicated teams dove into an innovative agile workshop where LEGO became more than just building blocks. Through tower-building challenges and creative scenarios, teams explored the parallels between LEGO construction and software development. 🌟 “Building a LEGO tower is like building software”, said Phillipa Bowerbank (formerly Lawless), Head of Academy, People & Culture at Gapstars. “You need to work as a team and be flexible in the way you adapt to necessary changes. It’s better to fail quickly, reassess and then go again.” 💫 “Being agile is truly a mindset”, said Peumalee Chandrasiri, Head of Delivery at Gapstars. “Agile frameworks, in theory, are the easiest frameworks to operate in. But to do so successfully, you need to change your mindset from working in a sequential way to a far more agile method.
