GoDutch is in Het Financieele Dagblad today! I highly recommend reading this great article about embedded finance. Building a financial product from scratch takes months, if not years. I know this firsthand. You need to build infrastructure, obtain licenses, and comply with regulations. This takes time and is expensive, a huge barrier to entry. Thanks to embedded finance players, this barrier is removed. They simplify financial product launches by offering ready-made infrastructure, and allow companies to operate under their regulatory umbrella. It’s a win-win for the ecosystem: - Users benefit from more competition: leading to better service, lower pricing and improved experiences. - Companies can launch financial products more easily and reduce operational investments in infrastructure and compliance. I have no doubt that the future of finance will be embedded. Financial products will be more and more distributed by non-financial players, taking market share away from traditional banks. What a start to the year for GoDutch, we added 1,000 new users in the first two months, still with zero marketing spend! From day one, our vision has been to grow without being dependent on SEA or affiliates. From my experience in neobanking, I knew the conventional growth engine for players. Trying to outbid on ads to grow is not a viable strategy for us as a new player against traditional and digital banks with deep pockets. So we built our acquisition strategy around partnerships. Pre-launch, we closed deals with the two largest platforms for digital company establishment. After the signups took off over the summer, we developed an onboarding API to increase conversion rates. Our third partnership came in after summer, and we have another three ready to start. On average, about 30% of growth now comes in via partners, 70% comes in via word-of-mouth, but it’s likely that partnerships positively influence the organic signups. Our first success shaped our entire growth, key lessons: 🔹 Work with highly relevant partners 🔹 Create a win-win for both the partner and the end user 🔹 When everyone wins, growth takes care of itself When we launched nine months ago, it took us 3.5 months to reach 1,000 users. This time, it took just two months. We’ve nearly doubled our velocity. Excited for what’s ahead!
