We are incredibly proud to share that we had the honor of meeting Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, at the Rise Europe event in Brussels. During the discussion, we explored the crucial role of European startups as some of the most innovative globally. However, it’s clear that they need the right resources to grow here in Europe! President von der Leyen shared her vision for building a stronger European ecosystem where startups can thrive. She also emphasized the need to make it easier for innovators to succeed by reducing the costs of failure, improving access to funding, and modernizing regulations. New ventures in the making! 🪄 The Fall cohort is off to a great start, and we recently held our FasTrackathon at the HighTechXL office. It was amazing to see the teams collaborating and generating ideas around new technologies. 👩💻Teams selected their technologies 🤝came together to complete the Market Opportunity Navigator ...and after an intense session each team had the chance to play co-founder and pitch their ideas to the audience. There isn’t much more to say, as this is where everything begins. Our CEO, John Bell, will be speaking at the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) on October 28th,  2024, at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore! This session on the Global Stage (10:00 AM - 10:40 AM, UTC+8) will highlight why the Netherlands, ranked 4th on the European Innovation Scoreboard, is an ideal hub for startups and innovation. Discover how Amsterdam’s connectivity and Eindhoven’s deep-tech ecosystem open doors for global partnerships. Joining John Bell are Bernice Tay (Enterprise Singapore), Kauan Von Novack (Startupbootcamp), and H.E. Anneke Adema, (Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands). John emphasizes, "Attending SWITCH offers unique opportunities to connect with the South-East Asian startup and investor ecosystem. It is paramount that our own deep-tech ecosystem can contribute to and benefit from the one in Singapore, which makes it so valuable to join SWITCH. It's all about connecting with all actors in the SEA startups ecosystem: investors, corporates, government, and, of course, startups." Yesterday, HighTechXL had the pleasure of joining the Rise Europe event in Brussels. The event brought together key players from politics, business, and academia across Europe with one clear purpose: to discuss how we can enable European Tech Champions. The discussions centered on creating stronger collaborations between decision-makers to ensure that Europe not only leads in research but also becomes a global powerhouse for economic, societal, and environmental impact. As John Bell, CEO of HighTechXL, emphasized:  "It’s imperative to help startups and scale-ups flourish in Europe. Rise Europe clearly shared its ambition and its call for the EU to team up, and this message was well received." We were honored to have the participation of Ann Mettler, Eva Maydell, Lídia Pereira, Kerstin Jorna, in a panel discussion moderated by Jean-Michel Dalle focused on how to unite Europe in one ecosystem and Isidro Laso, Michiel Scheffer, Shiva Dustdar, Ricardo Marvão with Antonella Mei-Pochtler as moderator on how the EU can be a motor for the next Europe’s Tech Champions. John stated: "It was a full house with more than 200 people. The purpose was to ensure that people know Rise Europe exists, and this was well achieved." And just like that, LEVEL UP 2024 - the event that accelerates startups came to an end! 🎉 We were amazed to see so many incredible people come together from all corners of our startup ecosystem. As John Bell, CEO of HighTechXL, put it, "Great to see so many relevant people coming together, private investors and ecosystem players. The event was well-organized, and the deep tech panels were insightful." Our new CFO and panel moderator, Patricia de Kort, emphasized once again that we need to "think bigger." She noted, "Both investors and startups need to aim higher. In the US, things are different; here in Europe, we tend to keep each other conservative, and it’s time to break out of that mindset." On another note, Soukaina Adnane-Murphy, Investment Manager at DeepTechXL, moderated a panel on navigating the European deep-tech startup landscape. The main takeaway from her panel: "It's not just about having the right technology, but also about having a good ecosystem in place to build the right team and eventually scale up."
