As 2023 concluded, so did our 2nd Octopus Springboard programme, fueling my excitement for 2024! We worked closely with 11 dynamic startups, each a catalyst in our urgent quest for a #sustainable planet. Here's a glimpse into the future they're creating:
⏩Decarbonising with Advanced Engineering & CCUS: With over 40% of global carbon emissions stemming from sectors like shipping and construction, startups like H2CHP and Cocoon are at the forefront. They're innovating in alternative green fuels and CCUS, crucial for cutting down emissions and creating eco-friendly cement.
⏩Revolutionising Waste Management with Robotics & AI: Facing a global waste crisis with only 10% of the 3 billion tons generated annually being recycled, Danu Robotics is transforming the trillion-dollar #waste management industry with cutting-edge #AI-driven #robotics.
⏩Redefining Materials & Recycling: Tackling the textile industry's 10% contribution to global GHG emissions, DyeRecycle & PulpaTronics are pioneering sustainable solutions in textile & dye recycling and developing eco-friendly metal-less paper RFID tags respectively.
⏩Innovative Electronics for a Smarter World: In a world increasingly reliant on sensors and electronics, our alumni like Phovir, RX Watt, and YEET Aerospace are leading the charge in advanced material analysis, #sensing and monitoring drone technologies for accelerated identification and deployment of sustainable solutions.
⏩Greener Computing Technologies: The future of #compute is exciting and crucial but carbon cost of GPT-3’s training alone amounted to >550 tons of CO2. Startups like Hoursec and QuInAs - ULTRARAM™ are developing ultra-efficient machine learning architectures and memory systems, respectively, significantly reducing energy use and carbon footprint.
⏩AI-Driven Sustainable Agriculture: Addressing global food security, Elaniti is leveraging machine learning and DNA sequencing to transition agriculture towards #netzero practices effectively.
As we embrace these technologies, let's reflect on #COP28's historic call for a global transition from fossil fuels. Their critical role in meeting the Paris Agreement goals cannot be overstated. What are your thoughts on these tech advancements for 2024?
