🌟IANUS Project's partner Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), under the direction of Dana Mahr (KIT-Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) organized the workshop & discussion: "Journalism’s Impact on Public Trust in Science". 🔎 Held at KulturBrauerei in Berlin, the event gathered researchers, journalists, and practitioners to discuss the role of media in shaping public perceptions of science, tackling the challenges posed by misinformation and digital transformations. 💡 Through case studies, investigative reports and expert discussions, the event highlighted the responsibility of journalists to accurately communicate scientific information while addressing misinformation and public skepticism. 🤲 Lessons learned from the workshop contribute to the IANUS Project’s mission of promoting media transparency, improving science communication and encouraging responsible public engagement with scientific discourse. As scientific knowledge continues to intersect with social, political and digital transformations, strengthening #TrustInScience remains a dynamic and collective effort. 💡On February 5th our partner Dr. Dana Mahr co-organized & moderated the interactive workshop “What Happens When We Trust Scientists – or Don’t?” ✨ Hosted by TRIANGEL Transfer | Kultur | Raum, the workshop was part of "Tell me ITAS," a series of events organized by the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in which researchers answer citizens' questions about their research topics. Organized and moderated by IANUS Project's Dr. Dana Mahr (ITAS, KIT) and Meike Hebich (ITAS, KIT), the workshop answered questions such as: what does #TrustInScience actually mean? and How does trust in scientists differ from other trust relationships? Highlights from the discussion underlined 🎙️ 🔎 Citizens' trust patterns towards different professionals: from High to Low levels of trust 🤝 The need for increased transparency & participation in #scicomm in order to strenghten #TrustInScience Read more about the results of the workshop here and stay tuned for more updates: 🚀 https://lnkd.in/d9jzS3gz

🚀 New Deliverable on Co-Creation and Open Science! How can co-creation and participatory methods transform Open Science into a more inclusive, transparent, and impactful research model? Our IANUS WP5 team (Erasmus University Rotterdam, Radboud University, Research Council of Lithuania | Lietuvos mokslo taryba, Tartu Ülikooli eetikakeskus/ The Centre for Ethics of the University of Tartu, Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)) has just released a new deliverable and digital handout exploring these crucial topics! 🔎 Key themes covered: ✅ Openness as Participation – Engaging the public to shape research that reflects societal needs. ✅ Openness as Transparency – Strengthening trust through open data, publishing, and ethical considerations. ✅ Participatory Research Methods – Adapting research techniques to enhance inclusivity and collaboration. ✅ Conflicts of Interest & Ethical Risks – Addressing funding biases, publication pressures, and dual-use concerns. ✅ Evaluating Impact – Using frameworks like PIPA & SIAMPI to assess the societal benefits of co-creation. 📌 Open Science is more than a toolbox—it’s a conceptual shift that integrates participation, accountability, and meaningful engagement into the research process. Using the "window" metaphor, we illustrate how researchers and the public can engage in a two-way exchange that fosters greater trust, collaboration, and real-world impact. 🔗 Interested in diving deeper? ➡️ Read the full article at: https://lnkd.in/d2f2NQm7 Access the full deliverable and handout via Zenodo: 📄 Deliverable: https://lnkd.in/d6KYRRHZ 📄 Digital Handout: https://lnkd.in/d4K2UjyF #trustinscience #ianusproject #openscience #cocreation #participatoryresearch #transparency #publicengagement
