🍫 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙪𝙩𝙘𝙝 𝙘𝙤𝙘𝙤𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩? Last week, the Dutch Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (DISCO) released its 2023 annual report and individual action plans developed by signatories. The report offers insights into the strides made by the 34 public and private signatories of the initiative toward a sustainable Dutch cocoa sector. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻? The Dutch cocoa sector is becoming more transparent and sustainable, but progress needs to accelerate to reach the partnership’s targets. ✅ 𝘋𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘳: The report shows encouraging progress, as signatories have taken considerable steps in the past years and have a clear plan in place to meet their ambitious targets.   💰 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦: While data on living income gaps used to be scarce, the report reveals signatories are now actively monitoring and piloting strategies to address these gaps. However, these efforts need to be considerably scaled and accelerated in the next years to meet the partnership’s targets. Presented at last week’s 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝘆 in Utrecht, the report led to valuable discussions around future actions. Key stakeholders from Vietnam’s apparel and footwear sector are joining forces to drive sustainable growth in the industry. Earlier this month, IDH, the Ministry of Industry and Trade Vietnam, Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS), represented by the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development, Vietnam Leather, Footwear, and Handbag Association (LEFASO), and VCOSA - Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association, signedan MoU to align efforts in enhancing energy efficiency, advancing sustainable production, and supporting circular economy models in the industry. This partnership, effective from 2024 to 2030, unites public and private initiatives to create a lasting impact by focusing on reducing emissions and waste, targeting a 10% annual reduction in energy consumption, and implementing circular economy practices. Together, we look forward to collaborating in building a resilient future for one of Vietnam’s most vibrant sectors. Watch the series and get to know these inspiring stories and see how women's leadership is revolutionizing the landscape! --- The Raízes da Caatinga Program was created in 2021 by IDH in partnership with the Laudes Foundation and is part of a wider collaboration, integrating the Regenerative Production Landscape Collaborative (RPLC) Program globally. In Brazil, the Raízes da Caatinga Program is bringing together more than 50 partners around a landscape strategy focused on three axes: Production, Protection and Inclusion (PPI). The aim is to enable all those involved - public managers, community associations, companies, cooperatives, banks, producers and other players - to establish agreements and priority agendas for sustainable development.

What are the crucial drivers for achieving higher wages in the Vietnamese textile, garment, and footwear sector? A report produced by the Institute of Labour Science and Social Affairs and IDH explores the challenges and opportunities for higher wages in the country, from the perspective of a diverse group of local stakeholders. We are excited to announce a new opportunity for collaboration in expanding beef traceability in Mato Grosso, the state with the largest cattle herd in Brazil. We are looking for an organisation (or consortium of organisations) interested in collaborating with us on this journey. The work would go beyond the efforts of the Sustainable Calf Production Program. Together, we aim to enhance traceability through a robust Traceability Protocol developed in 2021 by IDH and Natcap under the management of the National Confederation of Agriculture. Our goal? To enter 1 million calves from deforestation-free properties into a blockchain system by the end of 2025. Key deliverables include: ✅ A study on incentives for producers at each stage of the value chain to adopt the Protocol. ✅ Stakeholder engagement across the value chain. ✅ A roadmap for integrating traceability systems, promoting transparency without giving up full protection of strategic data for all parties. 🌍 Unlocking the Potential of Cameroon’s Cocoa Sector 🍫 Social inclusion and deforestation-free cocoa are key elements in all of IDH’s investments in Cameroon. Last month - in Yaoundé - we supported the presentation of the Sustainable Cocoa Committee’s National Action Plan for Sustainable Cocoa in Cameroon. Building on the Joint Framework of Action for Deforestation-Free Cocoa, the plan includes 11 main actions covering forest protection and restoration, sustainable production and marketing, and community engagement and social inclusion. Michael Ndoping, Director General of the National Cocoa and Coffee Board (ONCC), emphasised the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders: “The Action Plan is a collaborative effort amongst producers, buyers, exporters, public authorities and the civil society - because cocoa concerns everyone.” #LandscapeApproaches ONCC/NCCB Cameroun
