HSE Culture Change is not an event. It is a journey. In 2021, we started a journey with the Evonik team in Mapleton (Illinois, USA). Now it is time to mark another milestone! Five graduates of our Train-the-Trainer Program delivered their first Time-Out-workshops, using the signature InTense methodology. These in-house HSE Culture Ambassadors did an amazing job! New hires, 'old/young timers', and contractors were part of their audience and the feedback was great. What a way to inspire more people to take HSE Mindset & Behaviors to the next level. We congratulate the Evonik Mapleton Team on this achievement and look forward to creating more milestones. The journey continues. Changing Culture is not an event. It's a journey. Last week, I was in Illinois, U.S.A. to work with an amazing team. Again... In 2021 we started this EHS Culture journey. The entire workforce, roughly 200 people, is involved. Because you can't change culture with only a few. The plan we built is merely a direction to follow. Seeing progress, understanding setbacks, speeding up or slowing down actions, saying goodbye to people, and welcoming newbies are all part of the journey. Are we still at the start of the journey? Are we halfway? Are we almost done? Who knows? One thing we do now: Caring for culture is never done. It is a work in progress. So... Escape Rooms. My kids and I, love the excitement of a good Escape Room. The harder the challenges, the bigger the victory when we open the final door ‘back to freedom.’ A game leader, who tracks us on camera and a red button that can open the emergency exit, make us feel safe no matter how creepy or challenging an Escape Room is. The purpose of an Escape Room is to get out. So is the purpose of an Emergency Exit. Our globally based trainers visit many places to facilitate the InTense training sessions. It is their habit to check the emergency routes wherever they stay. More often than expected, they meet blocked or locked emergency exits. Can you imagine? What if people can’t escape a fire? Because somebody thought it was a good idea to stack chairs at the emergency exit? And why? Is it a lack of awareness? Lack of knowledge? Lack of (safety) leadership? Lack of care?
