Join us in our mission to regreen African landscapes and cool down the planet. DIG IN.

Over ons

At Justdiggit, we firmly believe in the power of nature to heal our planet. Together with farmers, pastoralists and (local) partners, we bring back vegetation to degraded landscapes in Africa using nature-based solutions so that ecosystems can thrive again, and the Earth’s temperature can cool down. So far we have dug 438,000 water bunds, recovered over 18 million native trees, and restored 433,000 hectares of land for the benefit of people, animals and our planet. We are happy with our impact thus far, but we aren’t nearly done yet. That’s because we’re not only on a mission to regreen landscapes in Africa – we also want to regreen hearts & minds all over the world. We want everyone to know that we can regreen and cool down our beautiful planet, together. To achieve this, we are building an ever-growing global regreening movement, connecting farmers, (I)NGOs, businesses and individuals with a shared vision for a greener and cooler world. Are you ready to join us on this mission? Contact us via partnerships@justdiggit.org and let’s dig in together.

  • With #Treecovery, we’re bringing back trees—and with them, precious shade! 🌳☀️ In the scorching heat, wildlife seeks shelter under nature’s canopy, helping them stay cool and preventing heat stress, especially in the arid and semi-arid regions. To scale up Treecovery and regreen even more land, we’re seeking funding partners who believe in the power of #NatureBasedSolutions. Our goal by the end of March is to restore more than 90,300 trees!   🤝 Want to make a real impact? When I joined Justdiggit and learned about the different #LandscapeRestoration projects, I was curious - Why plant grass? Then, I visited some of our project areas, and I saw firsthand that it’s about so much more than just grass: it’s about reviving ecosystems and empowering communities. 🌱 Reviving Entire Ecosystems The grass seeds we use to speed up the regreening process in the #EarthSmiles, for instance, encourage ecosystem regeneration and integrity. As the vegetation spreads, the land becomes covered in green, cooling the soil, preventing erosion and restoring a healthy ecosystem. But the impact goes far beyond the soil; it extends to the wildlife that once called these landscapes home. During my visit to Enkii’s bund site I saw zebras, giraffes, and even elephants returning, drawn by the renewed vegetation that provides food and shelter. What was once barren land is now covered with lush greenery, creating an environment that supports biodiversity. 👩🏽🌾 Empowering Communities While visiting our project sites, I met the incredible women working in the GrassSeedBanks, and their stories moved me. The project has become a vital and sustainable source of income. By selling grass seeds and hay, the women are feeding their families and livestock while securing financial independence. One woman from Lenkism Grass Seed Bank shared her motivation: “We have heard about the success of the women in Meshenani grass seed banks and we are motivated to reach their heights and provide for our families,” 🐄 Sustainable Grazing with Olopololis My visit to the South Rift was truly eye-opening. I learned about Olopololis, a traditional grazing management system that has been practiced among the Maasai for generations. Originally, these small grass enclosures were created to protect the weak and young livestock, keeping them close to the homesteads for easy care and feeding. Justdiggit has taken this indigenous knowledge a step further, expanding the Olopololis to a community level. Now, entire communities manage these enclosures, ensuring that pasture is preserved, and livestock have access to food throughout the seasons. By carefully regulating grazing patterns, they prevent overgrazing and allow vegetation to regenerate, creating a sustainable and resilient system for both people and livestock. This is the power of regreening. Restoring land, empowering communities, and bringing back nature - it’s all connected! ✨

  • Picture a land that was once vibrant and green, now dry and barren due to the effects of #ClimateChange. This is the reality for many communities in Tanzania, where land degradation threatens livelihoods, biodiversity, and the climate. But there’s hope—and you can be part of the solution. Through our #Treecovery program, we’re bringing back millions of trees without planting a single one. How? By unlocking the power of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR)—a simple yet powerful technique that helps trees regrow from existing root systems. It’s fast, cost-effective, and led by local African farmers. 🧑🏿🌾🌳 🆘 But we need your help. To scale up Treecovery and regreen even more land, we’re seeking funding partners who believe in the power of #NatureBasedSolutions. Our goal by the end of March is to restore more than 90,300 trees! We’re proud that over 44 funding partners are already supporting our Treecovery programme—and we’re looking for more! 🤝 Want to make a real impact? • Celebrating International Women’s Day… everyday! At #Justdiggit, we are not just fighting climate change, we are also working towards the achievement of gender equality! #SDG5: Gender Equality is, therefore, one of the 9 Sustainable Development Goals we are contributing to. 💡 How? Women play a key role in all of the #regreening programmes, receiving equal opportunities alongside men. From our Champion Farmers training programmes to the Grass Seed Banks, where Maasai women run entire regreening projects, we ensure that women have access to income, business skills, and leadership opportunities. By involving women in #ClimateAction, we are not only restoring degraded land, but we are also boosting economic independence and advancing their role within the community. 🔗 Want to be part of the change? At Epic Foundation, we believe that education is key to long-term impact and building futures. That’s why we’re thrilled to see our grantee, @Justdiggit, expanding its work to align with 9 Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) - now including SDG 4: Quality Education! 📚 With Epic’s support, Justdiggit successfully rolled out the #KijaniApp - a free educational tool that provides resources and digital courses for farmers to regreen land and restore ecosystems. Additionally, their Champion Farmers Training further equips local farmers with skills to drive sustainable change in their communities. 🌱 At Epic, we are committed to creating lasting change by tackling multiple barriers simultaneously. We take a holistic approach, recognizing that climate action and education go hand in hand! Want to learn more about how Justdiggit contributes to the SDGs? Our collaboration with Seven. One Entertainment Group and German TV channel ProSieben has been a great success! 📺👏 Especially during 'Green Seven Week', we had the opportunity to showcase our #regreening projects to a wide audience.
