  • Schiphol tests self-driving baggage vehicle 🧳 🛻 Schiphol and KLM have joined forces to enhance baggage handling efficiency by testing an electric, self-driving baggage vehicle from Aurrigo. This vehicle is designed to separate the baggage of passengers with long layovers from those with direct connections, resulting in reduced workload and less strain on the baggage system. On an average day, Schiphol processes around 31,000 pieces of baggage from transferring passengers, mainly in the morning. This new system ensures that baggage is introduced into the baggage system at the right time, reducing peak loads. 🛄🕒 The first phase of the trial, which began in August 2024, focused on the route from the temporary baggage storage location to the baggage hall. During the current test phase, the vehicle operates on the pier and will eventually be tested at aircraft stands. The self-driving vehicle is equipped with advanced technologies such as Lidar sensors and 360-degree cameras, allowing it to safely navigate among other traffic. For safety, a Safety Operator is always present to intervene if necessary. 📷👩🔧👨🔧 This test, running until the end of 2025, marks an important step towards a more efficient future for baggage handling at Schiphol. ✈️ #KLM #Schiphol #Innovation

Four years ago, KLM Cityhopper welcomed its first Embraer 195-E2. ✈️ We now have 22 in our fleet, with three more arriving this year. This transition is important because the new E195-E2s use 9% less fuel and emit 31% less CO₂ per passenger than the Embraer 190, while being 63% quieter than the E190. We are committed to making progress towards cleaner, quieter, and more efficient flight operations.  And above that, our crew and passengers love flying on the E195-E2! 💙 Photo: Mark Wagtendonk #KLM #Embraer

  • This week, 25 passionate students from AeroDelft, TU Delft | Aerospace Engineering's Faculty, visited KLM for an inspiring day focused on zero-emission aviation. ✈️ This visit is part of our partnership aimed at developing a zero CO2 emission aircraft, aligning with our mutual goal of making aviation cleaner, quieter, and more efficient. The students delved into KLM’s Zero Emission Aviation Programme, explored aircraft maintenance, and toured Hangar 14 and Engine Services. They gained invaluable insights into KLM's innovative approaches to electric and hydrogen-powered aviation, fuelling their own ambitious Project Phoenix, which focuses on hydrogen-powered flight. 💙 #KLM #AeroDelft
