👏 Great news from Somalia! One week ago, the Bosaso municipality launched its #BosasoCityDevelopmentStrategy supported by our partners in Somalia. The strategy focuses on #landmanagement, improved mobility, job creation, urban development and durable solutions for the coming 5 years. The plan is based locally agreed priorities through #participatory discussions with displacement affected communities (DACs) and has been aligned with national & state priorities strategy 👥 This is key to stimulate inclusive #urban development. After numerous #consultative forums, UN-Habitat Somalia (UNITED NATIONS HUMAN SETTLEMENTS) is pleased to report that together with IOM - UN Migration in Somalia, UNDP Som, we supported the #Bosaso Municipality in Somalia to develop and launch a 5-year #BosasoCityDevelopmentStrategy. Bosaso is now the second city in Somalia after #Baidoa, which we have supported in coming up with an evidence-based document; guiding #rapid urbanization and locally agreed #priorities that have been aligned with #national and #state priorities. This document outlines the city’s strategic direction in addressing #land management, #improved mobility and transport for better accessibility and connectivity, #service delivery, #job creation and #durablesolutions that comprise #intergration of displaced communities. The #CityStrategies are a flagship product for the #SaameyntaProgramme and are built upon a #participatory and #inclusive planning process that grounds upon community-based planning processes, representative surveys among displaced and hosting communities, social cohesion strategies, detailed economic and livelihood assessments as well as comprehensive #spatial and #urban analyses.
