O Fundo Indígena da Amazônia Brasileira iniciou na segunda-feira, 23, a participação na Semana do Clima, em Nova York, um dos eventos globais mais importantes na agenda de ação climática internacional. O podáali esteve esta manhã, na mesa, “Do Compromisso à Ação: Possibilitando o financiamento direto para os povos indígenas em iniciativas multilaterais de clima e biodiversidade”, representado pela conselheira fiscal e sócia fundadora do Fundo Indígena, Ângela Kaxuyana, do Povo Kahyana, que reforçou a importância de apoiar iniciativas indígenas para alcançar metas climáticas. “Nesses últimos levantamentos em que se comprova que menos de 7% foi destinado diretamente para os mecanismos ou espaços de fundos ou de outras formas dos povos indígenas, é um reflexo, sobretudo, do não reconhecimento do papel e da importância dos povos indígenas para a manutenção da biodiversidade, do clima e da vida humana. A partir do momento que não se reconhece essa importância, você não confia. Falta descolonizar a mente e o sentimento dos financiadores para que eles possam sentir o que sentimos, a conexão com o território. Falta descolonizar sobre as suas responsabilidades e deixar de terceirizar a sua responsabilidade de salvar essa humanidade a partir do reconhecimento e da importância dos povos indígenas para a humanidade. Os fundos de ação dos povos indígenas já provaram que é possível mudar nossas relações” pontuou Ângela. A Semana do Clima (Climate Week NYC) ocorre entre os dias 22 e 29 de setembro. Também estão presentes durante esses dias, representantes da Coordenação das Organizações Indígenas da Amazônia Brasileira (Coiab), da Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil (Apib) e do Caucus Indígena América Latina e Caribe. 📸 Isaka hunikui

🌍 Land and Human Rights: The Growing Role of Transparency in Tackling Corruption 🌍 In a new blog on the Land Portal Foundation website, Jonathan Ochom from Transparency International highlights a critical gap: while international law doesn't explicitly declare land a human right, access to land underpins key rights like food, housing, and health. Without transparent governance, corruption blocks access to these rights, leaving millions vulnerable. The UN's General Comment 26 now acknowledges this by calling for greater transparency, participation, and anti-corruption measures in land governance. These funds, born from collaborative efforts among multiple nations or organizations, hold the potential to unleash massive amounts of resources to combat pressing crises by supporting Indigenous Peoples, local communities and Afro-descendant Peoples who steward and value our primary forests. Despite their global commitments, these funds often struggle to deliver their support swiftly enough to their intended recipients. As territorial funds proliferate in the climate finance ecosystem, our upcoming hybrid webinar will dissect the role of multilateral mechanisms in this evolving landscape.
